An HP FB500 flatbed printer, suitable for smaller printers and sign shops, has been sold to Croydon-based Discount Displays by HP reseller and large-format specialist City and West End Solutions.

This new entry-level digital flatbed print system, launched at the Ipex 2010 exhibition, provides a white-ink capability and has a relatively small footprint.

The 1.6m-wide machine is said to handle 6.4cm-thick media and has an optional roll-to-roll kit.

Its production speed ranges from 5m2 per hour in photo mode to 37m2 per hour in express mode.

Discount Displays purchased the HP flatbed printer after seeing the machine in action at City and West End Solutions' demonstration facility in Nottingham.

It had previously been experimenting on an older digital press and was interested in the opportunities that the ultraviolet (UV) technology could offer the company.

The decision was made to source a true production machine that not only provided high-production volume at high quality but was also built to withstand all the rigours of a busy print facility.

According to Giles Fletcher, general manager at Discount Displays, the HP FB500 machine is simple to set up and use and delivers vibrant colours.
