Healthy 2005 sales figures from Copapharm Europe, the alliance of specialist packaging companies, have helped strengthen its position in the European pharmaceutical packaging sector.

Healthy 2005 sales figures from Copapharm Europe, the alliance of specialist packaging companies, have helped strengthen its position in the European pharmaceutical packaging sector.

Figures just released by the alliance show a total turnover in 2005 of EUR244.2 million, up 11.7 per cent on the previous year.

Pharmaceuticals and health care remains the dominant 84 per cent share of that, with other areas of operation including bodycare, confectionary and food, as well as consumer products.

Copapharm Europe companies specialise in cartons, labels, leaflets and associated services for customers, including a number of multi-national pharmaceutical groups.

The members are Faller (Germany), Packart (France), Palladio/Zannini (Italy), Goldprint (Belgium), Storey Evans (Great Britain), and Icesa, Pans and Cartonplex (Spain).

Sales in the second half of 2005 were boosted by the membership of French pharmaceutical leaflet and labelling specialist Rotanotice, which expanded the Copapharm Europe alliance to 10 member companies with 19 manufacturing sites and a total capacity of 6.5 billion folding carton units, 4.6 billion leaflet units and 3.2 billion label units across Europe.

Bruno Chorzelewski, president of the Copapharm Europe alliance, described the reasons for the continued healthy growth figures: "We deliver a combination of consistently excellent local service with pan-European capability and experience.

The strength of the local supplier's relationship with the customer cannot be over-emphasised, and we believe that being at the leading edge of new technologies in our industry has also helped reinforce these links." He added: "Many of the companies within the alliance are already well-established leaders at the forefront of their field of expertise." This year has already started well for the Copapharm alliance, it said, with several Copapharm members experiencing fast organic growth ahead of sales forecasts, added the organisation.

Copapharm's member companies have a total of 19 manufacturing sites across Europe: in Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Serbia Montenegro, the UK and Ireland.

The companies work closely, individually and collectively, with pharmaceutical manufacturers to supply appropriate packaging requirements.
