An 8.5 per cent increase in turnover at Copapharm Europe has been achieved purely through organic growth.

Copapharm Europe, the pharmaceutical packaging and labelling alliance, believes that growth is an indication of its developing strength in the pharma packaging and labelling sector.

The company's 2006 figures show a total turnover in 2006 of EUR264.8 million, compared to EUR244.2m in 2005, which reflect the alliance's increasing share of the supply of printed packaging to the pharmaceutical sector.

Eight-five per cent of Copapharm's turnover is in pharma and healthcare, which has been increased from 84 per cent in 2005.

The remaining 15 per cent of turnover is mainly derived from bodycare, food, confectionary and consumer products.

Copapharm Europe said the member companies of its alliance specialise in producing cartons, labels, leaflets and associated services for pharmaceutical and healthcare customers, including a number of multi-national pharmaceutical companies.

Last year the alliance, which employs 2,200 people, produced 5.2 billion cartons, 3.5 billion leaflets and 1.6 billion labels.

Copapharm's 10 member companies are Faller (Germany), Packart and Rotanotice (France), Palladio and Zannini (Italy), Goldprint (Belgium), Storey Evans (UK) and Icesa, Pans and Cartonplex (Spain).

They have a total of 19 manufacturing sites across Europe, in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Serbia Montenegro, Spain, the UK and Ireland.

Those companies work closely, both individually and collectively, with pharmaceutical manufacturers to supply appropriate packaging requirementsm saud Copapharm.

Together, they have a total capacity of 6.9 billion folding carton units, 4.6 billion leaflet units and 2.8 billion label units across Europe.

Chairman of Copapharm Europe, Bruno Chorzelewski, described the growth as 'very encouraging'.

He commented: "Customers value the on-the-ground expertise provided by the sites of the individual Copapharm companies, giving a local and direct service at the same time as having combined facilities and capacity across Europe for multi-site pan-European supply.

The creation of Copapharm Europe SCRL from the Copapharm Alliance has helped in the completion and signing of a number of single supply agreements delivering products to customers' multi sites from Copapharm sites in several countries.".
