It applies a five-micron thick, gloss UV lacquer to the disc surface using Copytrax Technologies' adjustable coating head technology and precision robotics, coupled with user selectable menus controlling disc type selection and lacquer application.
The finish on the disc surface is said to be to the same high standard from the first disc to the last.
Cost per disc coated is claimed to be, on average, one Euro cent per CD, with a cycle time of less than 30 Seconds.
That, coupled with a 250-disc hopper capacity gives more than two hours running before having to recharge the input hopper.
Copytrax believes that the last two years has seen an explosion in low quantity, CD and DVD duplication, with many small businesses starting up to cater for the fast turnaround, quick response end of the market, with the emphasis on high quality print to the CD Surface.
The company's own Artmaster range of CD and DVD printers was developed four years ago to cater for that market.
They are designed for direct-to-disc-surface printing, but the drawback is the use of water based inkjet technology, which although giving vibrant colours with proven technology for colour matching, is not durable without a protective topcoat.
Various solutions for protecting the disc surface after print, became available ranging from using an aerosol-applied lacquer to an adhesive label, neither of which are automated nor give the desired consistent finish.
