Colourgen, the exclusive distributor of the new Encad Novajet 1000i printer, has announced that seven companies have signed up to be first level resellers for the new printer.

Colourgen, the UK distributor of large format digital printing systems and exclusive distributor of the new Encad Novajet 1000i printer, has announced that seven companies have signed up to be first level resellers for the new printer.

Andersons, Applied Image Technologies, City and West End Solutions, DCP Systems, Genix, Litho Supplies and Newcastle Computer Services are now authorised to sell the product and between them have already received more than 50 new orders.

Jeff Biggs, managing director of Colourgen, commented: "Getting the reseller channel right for the new printer was of paramount importance.

We wanted companies that would offer genuine commitment to selling and supporting the 1000i and their customers by investing in demonstration equipment and receiving full training.

We are delighted that seven of the country's top resellers have fulfilled this criteria and we are looking forward to seeing significant sales for the new Encad printer." He added: "The Novajet 1000i sets new standards in the large format graphic art production market.

This is the product we have been waiting for since Kodak acquired Encad." The printer is designed to specifications compiled from extensive customer input sessions and uses a number of innovations to improve speed, image quality, reliability, ease of use and provides users with an extremely low cost per print, he claimed.

It is also said to print at speeds of up to 14 square metres per hour in photo-like quality, and is believed by Colourgen to be the fastest printer in its class.

Encad has introduced a new, 640-nozzle print head to the machine and in addition, the Novajet 1000i uses a dual component rapid evaporation drying system to enable take-up at full speed onto a wide range of media.

Steve Chappell, the sales director of Genix Systems Sales commented: "The 1000i represents a major leap forward in the LFDP arena, with blistering speeds coupled with exceptional reliability and low running costs." Shaun Thompson, hardware sales manager at Andersons, said: "The printer offers exactly what our customers demand; versatility, unrivalled speed and low cost of ownership - all without compromising image quality." Steve Dodds, sales director at Litho Supplies Electronics, added: "When Encad launched the 1000i we immediately saw the benefits to our customers in its high productivity, low operator maintenance and fantastic quality.

We were particularly impressed with the large, easy to monitor ink reservoirs that our high production customers demand and the image mask technology that will enable them to produce stunning output at the highest speeds." Roger Ward, managing director of Applied Image Technology said: "We were involved at an early stage with this printer, developing the driver and media profiles for our Shiraz RIP.

Our initial impressions have been very positive.

The 1000i combines excellent quality and reliability with Encad's tradition of low running costs and we are sure it will appeal to a broad cross section of display markets as well as existing users." The Novajet 1000i will be available in limited quantities from mid-May 2004 and is priced at ?10,450 for the 60" model and ?7,450 for the 42" model.
