Fine debut for image art
Western Computer has installed the UK's first Stylus Pro 9600 large format printer for fine art reproduction.
Southampton (UK) Digital Print FX's managing director, Keith Toomey, explained: "We have a policy to laminate every piece of work we produce to ensure the best possible finish and durability of our prints.
One of our specialities is to produce images for restaurants, hospitals and airports on high quality media, such as canvas or photo satin." He added: "We have found that Kodak's own media, printed using the 1200i, produces superb, vibrant images that the customers are delighted with.
We have tried to do the same with alternative media and printers and simply cannot reproduce the level of quality the Kodak system gives us.

Colourgen, the UK distributor of large format digital printers, has announced that its loyalty discount offer for current Epson wide format printers has been extended to March 31 2004.
The pictures we produce for our restaurant customers deliver the 'wow' factor every time." Digital Print FX first bought an Encad Novajet 850 in 2002 and Toomey was always impressed with the quality and versatility of the printer.
The company also has a Rockhopper solvent printer.
Toomey continued: "The solvent printer is generally OK for outdoor work, but what many of our customers are looking for are vivid, vibrant images that really impress.
As our business has increased, we needed a new printer that could deliver top quality images at much faster speeds.
Derric Landor at Print Technologies showed us the Kodak 1200i at Sign UK and I was very impressed." The Kodak 1200i was installed in June and has already made a big difference to Digital Print FX.
Toomey commented: "The printer is really eating up the work.
As well as the framed canvas prints, we have produced very large murals by mounting output on to Forex board.
The quality of the 1200i and Kodak media means we can mount prints side by side to create hugely striking displays several metres wide that have left customers extremely satisfied." When Keith Toomey started Digital Print FX, he came direct from a larger company without any prior printing experience.
He described his experience since then: "It has been a steep learning curve for us because understanding how to produce wide format prints of the highest quality is by no means an easy task.
We have always taken the time to listen to suppliers to determine what works best and what we need to do to achieve the levels of quality we want to give our customers.
Both Colourgen and Print Technologies have been the ideal partners in this respect.
Their advice and guidance has been invaluable in helping us select systems and materials that are the very best the industry has to offer." He continued: "We are absolutely delighted with the Kodak 1200i.
The dye-based inks deliver vivid, realistic images that we simply can't achieve with solvent inks.
In our case our customers are voting with their feet and our 1200i jobs are out-selling our solvent work by 10 to 1." Digital Print FX works with graphic and interior designers who respect the quality and reliability of the company's work, said Colourgen.
As well as producing the prints, the company also has its own design capabilities to help ensure what it produces matches or exceeds their customers' demands.
Toomey explained: "We need quality to ensure we get repeat business, which is our main priority.
Colourgen and Print Technologies' outlooks are very similar to our own and we have appreciated their commitment and responsiveness to our needs throughout our relationship.
As a company we are looking to further expand our range and breadth of service and we are confident that we will receive the products and support we need to achieve this." Digital Print FX was formed in 2002 and is now one of the leading UK specialists in high quality large format printing, bespoke digital wall-coverings and business reprographics.
The company's ethos is to ensure it maintains customer loyalty by always delivering vibrant, durable displays using the finest quality materials.
