Inkjet Printers Make Big Impression In Art World
As more artists are exploring the potential of digital printing technology, one company, Coriander Studio, is producing its digital prints by using Epson printers.
The Epson Stylus Pro 11880 used by Coriander Studio, which were supplied by Colourgen, is said to showcase Epson's latest inkjet technologt to create long-lasting, consistent results with the new Epson Micro Piezo TFP printhead and Epson's Ultrachrome K3 inks with Vivid Magenta technology.
Colourgen, which had already provided Coriander with two Espon 11880 systems, said that the Stylus Pro 11880 is suitable for proofing, photographic and fine art print making.
Coriander Studio was formed in 1972 by Brad Faine and his wife, who are both artists.
They have used their knowledge, experience and relationships to become one of Europe's most prolific producers of limited edition prints for artists and publishers, added Colourgen.
The company works with internationally recognised artists to produce collectible limited editions.
Brad Faine said: "Our business has been built on silkscreen printing and this is still hugely popular with many artists.
The technique allows artists to get heavily involved in the process and provides exceptionally accurate fine-art prints using hand-cut, photographically, or digitally made stencils.
Artists prefer this method because their involvement at every stage ensures the end product is an original piece in its own right rather than a reproduction." And he explained: "However, the recent advances in digital printing technology have led to an explosion in the number of artist generating exciting and ground-breaking digital prints using the latest inkjet printers." Colourgen said that a chance meeting at a Royal Academy of Art presentation gave Brad Faine an introduction to Epson's range of Stylus Pro printers.
He added: "I started chatting with Martin Johns from Epson and he immediately saw the potential of working with us.
Within 24 hours we had our hands on a Stylus Pro 9500 and we were immediately impressed.
In our business, the crucial element is the range and quality of colours and tones and the Epson was the best we had seen.
For colours it is absolutely spot on." Since then, Coriander is said to have been one of the first companies to try out and test new Epson printers.
Faine said: "We have had a very early look at most of Epson's new printers and I have to say that they manage significant improvements with each release.
We have a number of Epsons around the building and we are still using many of them for specific projects.
Quite simply, they are very easy to use, hugely reliable and the printed output is second to none.
They have also impressed many of the artists we work with, including Peter Blake, who has actively encouraged the use of the Epsons for several of his projects." And speaking about the Stylus Pro 11880, he continued: "This is a high quality digital printer at a sensible size for many artists.
At 64", the new Epson provides real flexibility and opens up many more opportunities.
The printer has all the ease-of-use, reliability and image quality benefits of the other Epsons, but the size really gives us a new dimension.
Having seen the new printer, many of our artists are excited by the prospect of the new and bigger projects on which they can work.".
