Colourgen Offers CD, DVD System With Colour Print
Colourgen has become a distributor of the new Epson Discproducer PP-100 for the photographic and graphic arts production market in the UK.
The Epson Discproducer is claimed to duplicate professional CDs and DVDs with colour surface printing in quantities from a single disc up to 100 copies.
Photo-quality images are printed directly on to either standard or glossy media discs using six-colour printing.
The Discproducer is also said to enable pictures, or any other data, to be recorded using accessible software and can be left unsupervised to complete the batch.
Epson's Discproducer's Total Disc Maker software enables data formatting, label editing and control of the production process in a single application, said the company.
The Discproducer's enclosed cabinet with positive pressure environment reduces airborne particle contamination and increases read and write reliability, whilst its compact footprint and front operation means it can be conveniently placed on a shelf, said Colourgen.
The Discproducer creates print images using Epson's Micro Piezo printing, with each of the six colours provided from a separate cartridge.
That is said to make the Discproducer cost-effective because each set of cartridges has a capacity of 1,000 prints and cartridges are only changed when necessary.
The company added that Discproducer also benefits from Epson's engineering pedigree and incorporates an Acugrip robotic arm that places individual discs for burning and printing.
The Acugrip is claimed to be precise and prevents any damage to the discs.
It can also determine if a disc has the correct information copied on to it and tests that it works.
Inoperable discs are identified in the batch so users can identify if there is a faulty disc.
With more companies and organisations storing information on CD and DVD the variety of applications for the Discproducer is increasing, added Colourgen.
Whether it is used to reduce time spent producing marketing materials, or to improve patient service through medical digital imaging, the ability to create and print discs at source is more efficient and cost-effective.
For such organisations as schools and public services the handling of data to ensure security can be an issue that is addressed by creating discs in-house.
Melanie Enser, product marketing manager for Colourgen, commented: "The Epson Discproducer is a great complementary product for the Epson range of wide format printers and we feel it can offer a new dimension and more scope for our resellers alongside printing systems.
More material is being archived and communicated digitally and this product allows professional images to be supplied on personalised, high quality discs.
We see a huge potential for the product in our marketplace and are looking forward to actively promoting it within our customer base." Ray Cranston, the sales and marketing manager for Epson's Retail Technology Division, said: "Colourgen has an unrivalled pedigree in the graphic arts production market and we believe this will be an important sales channel for the product.
Colourgen has been providing complete systems for design agencies, photographers and reprographics companies for many years and we are confident that its knowledge and experience of these markets will significantly benefit the market penetration of the Discproducer.".
