DCP Systems has introduced its own brand Tear Resistant Quickdry photobase media, claiming big savings in media costs compared to alternatives as well as major savings on ink usage.

The company believes that for bureaux and in-house digital wide format printers, the media will reduce media types that need to be stocked, whilst also improving print quality output.

Tear Resistant Quickdry with its photobase is said to be designed for a variety of applications from photographic to retail displays as well as PoS, exhibition graphics and backlit displays which are semi-translucent without the problems of paper grain show-through.

"This new media is an excellent multipurpose product.

It allows light diffusion for displays but more importantly, with its formulation and structure, ink does not need to penetrate its surface too deeply to provide stunning images and thus when profiled for a printer RIP it can provide a massive 30 per cent or more savings on ink costs," said DCPs sales director Darren Walker.

The new DCP media is claimed to be tear resistant, features a wide colour gamut and with its whiter base also provides an alternative for proofing applications.

Tear Resistant Quickdry is 175 microns thick and comes in matte, satin and gloss versions on 30-metre rolls in a range of widths from 36" to 60".

For short term banner applications, the media can even be eyeleted and grommetted.

"The development of such universal media products is receiving wide acclaim in other countries because of the mediums inherently unique properties.

It also features excellent lamination properties and making for a genuine universal approach to media choice and usage from print shops to corporate printers," added Walker.

Tear Resistant Quickdry can be laminated without edge splitting or delamination.

The media provides good adhesion properties for cold pressure sensitive laminates as well as for hot lamination at temperatures up to 87.7 degrees C said DCP.

It is also claimed to be used effectively with dye based and pigmented inks.

The medium's coating is compatible with a variety of wide format thermal inkjet printers for which DCP can supply ICC profiles.
