DCP Systems has introduced the HP Designjet 8000s series to its distribution portfolio.

DCP Systems has introduced the HP Designjet 8000s series to its distribution portfolio The company said that alongside the capabilities of the higher output capability 64-inch Designjet 9000 and the 104-inch Designjet 10000 printers, the Designjet 8000s provides DCP Systems with an HP system for medium volume, high volume and super-wide output requirements in the low solvent inkjet arena

The new 64-inch, low solvent Designjet 8000s inkjet printer is said to be suitable for print and sign shops, as well as for the in-house production of medium volume and durable graphics.

According to DCP Systems, with HP's concept of print more, pay less, Designjet 8000s features heavy duty HP printheads, which in conjunction with 500ml HP 780 ink cartridges and media.

The six-colour piezo heads each incorporate 256 nozzles, providing claimed long lasting high resolution print on low cost uncoated media, including SA vinyls, films, banner stocks, papers and fabrics.

HP's low solvent ink formulation and print head technology are said to enable a higher concentration of ink colourants to produce a wider gamut of rich, saturated colour.

The images are durable without the need for lamination, resisting fade for up to three years, as well as resisting scratches, smearing and cracking, added DCP.

Designjet 8000s also have low ink consumption and a low cost of operation, whilst providing claimed 720 dots per inch (dpi) x 720dpi resolution.

The sheet and roll fed inkjet features four printing modes for high quality, normal, draft normal and fast colour output at, for example on vinyl media, 4.08, 8.17, 10.2 and 15.3 square metres per hour, respectively, added the company.

An optional take-up reel kit makes for long unattended print runs with four selectable winding modes of slack/face-in, slack/face-out, tight/face-in and tight/face-out.

An integrated air purifier makes for a cleaner environment, believes DCP.

A sealed, carbon activated filter and fan filters air at a rate consistent with print speed and VOC emissions during the printing process.

The system returns cleaned air to the working area, or alternatively diverts it outside.

The air purification system is equipped with a standard sealing device and collected pollutants are routed automatically through the filter.

The system is controlled via the printer's front panel display.

Three integrated and independent heating systems provide media drying to the front, print area and rear of the machine at temperatures that can be independently set, ranging from 15 degrees C to 55 degrees C.

A dryer is also optionally available to accelerate drying time and speed productivity.

The Designjet 8000's system results in dry prints as quickly as the automatic take-up reel can handle print output, it is claimed, with output up to 15.3 square metres per hour.

Designjet 8000s come without a RIP, whilst the SR version additionally comes with the Onyx SignEZ v2.0 RIP.

However, both can also run with the optionally available HP version of Onyx Postershop 7.0 where a more powerful software RIP and colour workflow system is required, said DCP Systems.

The software RIPs are said to provide the best colours that the printer is capable of producing, whilst managing jobs and handling production with pre-flight and queue tools.

DCP Systems said the system is easy to use and navigate, incorporating colour correction tools, nesting and tiling, as well as support for contour cutting workflow.

HP has also produced a range of media, designed specifically for use with its low solvent inks on the 8000s series.

Included are premium and universal scrim banner, premium backlit film, blue back satin billboard paper, satin canvas and translucent PVC display film.

Print parameters the Designjet 8000s series include media thickness of 0.07mm to 0.63mm and a print head height adjustable between 2.1mm and 2.6mm.

Maximum print width is width 1,626mm and maximum roll weight is 24kg.
