Delphax Technologies a provider of high-speed, continuous-feed digital printing and publishing systems will launch the new CR2000 printer at Drupa 2004.

Delphax Technologies a provider of high-speed, continuous-feed digital printing and publishing systems will launch the new CR2000 printer at Drupa 2004.

The company said it believes the CR2000 is the world's fastest continuous feed monochrome digital printer and that it operates at just under 2,000, 8.5" x 11" pages per minute of duplex printing.

The CR2000 uses electron beam imaging, which offers several benefits compared to traditional laser imaging systems.

This includes fewer active components, which results in greater reliability.

In addition is said to produce even and durable fusing, enhanced dot uniformity, less edge distortion and better image control.

The system is also claimed to be a lot easier to service and upgrade - an important fact if customers want to maintain equipment themselves.

The image-able print format of 18.24" allows the production of three-up 6" x 9" books or two-up statements, increasing output significantly and reducing delivery times.

The use of paper in reels, which can be from 14"-19.75" wide, increases printing speed and brings down material costs, and a wide selection of coated and uncoated stock can be handled from 40gsm - 226 gsm.

All of the CR Series of printers accepts multiple data streams, which can be in formats ranging from PDF and PostScript to AFPDS and LCDS.

Incoming data is sent to the print controller and converted to a language that optimises printer performance.

"Electron beam imaging is a simple yet highly reliable technology, and it is one of the reasons why the Delphax continuous feed digital printers have been so successful around the world," said UK managing director Ian Jaggard.

"Delphax has pioneered the use of this technology within digital printers and it has been recognised throughout the industry for the advantages it provides the end user.

What we have achieved with the CR2000 will take monochrome digital printing to a new level of possibilities and we're extremely excited by the opportunities about to be opened up for our customers by this latest launch," he added.

Delphax's traditional markets include publishers, direct mailers, in-house data and document centres, service bureaux and transactional printers.

However, the company believes the speed, quality and reliability of the CR2000 will also make it attractive to printers of monochrome books or similar work.

"The CR2000 will narrow the gap between conventional litho printing and digital printing to the extent where it will become a viable alternative to traditionally printed work.

We believe this latest Delphax digital printer will take us into new industry sectors.

There is nothing on the market that we know of that equals its productivity, quality of output and flexibility, and for a wide range of black and white work the CR2000 will offers a very low cost per copy when compared to other printing systems," added Jaggard.

The CR2000 will be on the Delphax stand at Drupa - A39, Hall 17.
