Nottingham printer and carton manufacturer, Fine Colour Packaging has invested in its first B1 thermal computer-to-plate system with Dainippon Screen's Platerite 8000.

Established in 1976 and working for major store groups, confectionery and blue chip companies, Fine Colour Packaging invested in the digital plate setting technology to remain in line with the market trend towards digital workflow.

Guy Gisborne, a director of Fine Colour Packaging said: "It is important for us to keep up with the industry changes and investing in a CTP system was a natural progression.

We chose the Platerite 8000 because Screen offered us a very good backup and service package and as the plate setter met all of our production needs at a competitive price we felt it was the best solution for us." Since the installation of the Platerite 8000, the company said it experiences quicker plate production, and it estimates its monthly plate usage to be 1,200 per month using Fuji non-bake plates supplied by Pageant Graphics in Leicester.

Fine Colour Packaging said it now has better control over its production workflow, with make-readies being better and easier to produce, enabling the company to cope with decreasing lead times.

"The CTP system joins our two B1 6-colour presses, one a Heidelberg with coater and one a Mitsubishi with double coater.

The quality we have achieved from the Platerite 8000 is superb with an improvement in clarity.

We are able to get a job on press much more quickly which has in turn enabled us to react to our customer's demands much more efficiently," added Gisborne.
