Dainippon Screen Europe has just launched its CIP3 Inkzone to Print to enable printers to set the ink zones on any number of presses direct from digital job CIP3 data.

Dainippon Screen Europe has just launched its CIP3 Inkzone to Print to enable printers to set the ink zones on any number of presses direct from digital job CIP3 data Working from data generated by Trueflow prepress workflow, it is said to avoid the need to scan the plate or invest in dedicated on-press conversion systems

Many companies today still use ink-zone preset values generated by plate scanners to set the controls on their presses.

However, due to the low contrast between the metal and ink-bearing layer of the plates, this process is relatively inaccurate, said Dainippon.

Now, with the introduction of Dainippon's Inkzone to Print printers can calibrate a wide range of presses very accurately using first-generation CIP3 PPF (Print Production Format) data direct from the same digital file used to create the job proofs and plates.

As a result, printers benefit from numerous advantages that boost the productivity and quality of the printing process.

They include shorter start-up times, significant savings in waste, and 100% reproducibility with repeat orders.

The CIP3 Inkzone to Print solution features CIP3 out, which is an output option for Trueflow that creates the CIP3 PPF file for ink zone presetting.

CIP3 Print converts standard PPF files into press-specific ink zone preset values, bypassing press vendors proprietary solutions.

Inkzone Box integrates with CIP3 Print to print press data cards in the required format.

For example, a Heidelberg Chipcard, MAN Roland Jobcard or KBA and Komori floppies could all be accommodated.

The system is compatible with most popular press brands.

Dainippon claims that companies operating presses from a range of manufacturers only need one CIP3 Inkzone to Print system to support them all.

Existing offset machines without digitally preset ink zones can be upgraded with to the system simply and economically.

"This new system maintains our philosophy of providing open and non-proprietary systems.

It's ideal for those companies operating older presses that don't feature integrated CIP3 ink zone control and are currently scanning their plates to obtain preset data.

By investing in this one system they can improve quality and productivity immediately across any number and size of presses," explained Sjaak Veeken, product manager for Dainippon Screen Europe.
