Dainippon Screen UK is celebrating the installation of its 200th Trueflow workflow system.

Dainippon Screen UK is celebrating the installation of its 200th Trueflow workflow system.

Technik, a Berkhamsted-based (UK) full-service facility, is also taking delivery of its first Dainippon Screen Platerite 8000II B1 thermal platesetter with automatic plate loader to replace two existing visible light platesetters.

At the same time, Technik is upgrading its screening facilities with Dainippon's Spekta AM/FM hybrid screening.

Technik will image between 1,200 and 2,500 plates per month on the Platerite 8000II, supplying two B1 Heidelberg Speedmaster CD102 presses (one five-colour, one six-colour).

The company supplies such blue-chip customers as Boots, WH Smith, Panasonic, Safeway, Woolworth and leading British, German and Japanese car manufacturers.

"The simplicity, reliability, quality and open architecture of Trueflow and platesetter combined with Spekta screening greatly appealed to us.

We particularly like the fact that Trueflow is open and browser-based," said Terry Walker, managing director of Technik.

"This investment also puts us on track to take advantage of CIP4 and JDF.

We operate an integrated CIP3 workflow between pre-press and printing to maximise quality output and we will evolve to take advantage of JDF in the same way," he added.

Technik has steadily progressed from repro house to a successful full-service facility providing web design, facilities management, digital photography, design and artwork, high end re-touching, colour management and pre-press production, as well as printing.

Walker commented: " We use Agfa plates, and it's a great advantage of Dainippon's 'open' philosophy that we are free to choose plates from any supplier depending on what suits our business best.

Another plus is the transition from silver to thermal process.

Silver is a high-maintenance option that is not ecologically sound and requires special lighting conditions, so thermal with a much cleaner and easy to control environment is preferable." Dainippon Screen said that the level of interest in Trueflow is very high with an average of eight per month sold over the past year.

The highly experienced and competitive UK market now represents over 10% of world sales of Trueflow, according to Brian Filler, managing director of Dainippon Screen UK.

"The combination of Trueflow and our wide range of CTP devices from B3 to 32-page is a proven and highly reliable production system that immediately delivers business benefits while providing printers with the flexibility to grow as their business develops.

For a company of Technik's reputation to choose Screen workflow and CTP technology is a major endorsement," said Filler.
