First Impression of Camberwell, London, has installed the first fully automatic Dainippon Screen Platerite 8100 platesetter in the UK in a move from CTF to thermal CTP.

First Impression of Camberwell, London, has installed the first fully automatic Dainippon Screen Platerite 8100 platesetter in the UK in a move from CTF to thermal CTP.

The Platerite 8100 can produce plates for most presses in the B3 to B1 range, handling plate sizes ranging from 450mm x 370mm (17.7" x 14.5") to 1,160mm x 940mm (45.6" x 37").

First Impression's Platerite installation can handle automated loading of up to 50 plates thanks to the SAL-8100 single cassette autoloader option, said Dainippon Screen.

The CTP installation produces about 1,500 plates per month to drive three presses: a six-colour B1 Speedmaster CD102, a six-colour B2 Speedmaster 72, and a Kord-64 (which was the company's first press back in 1986).

With clients including FTSE 200 companies as well as London design and advertising agencies, First Impression maintains a policy of always investing in the latest digital technology required in order to meet the highest standards expected by its clients.

The sale was supported by UK distributor Openshaw and also included an Epson 10600 B0+ colour proofer and a Dainippon Screen Trueflow workflow system upgrade.

"I've been a dedicated Screen fan for the past 18 years but the Platerite 8100 is absolutely marvellous.

We had it installed right at the beginning of our busy annual report season and increased production by 25% in the first month and improved make-ready times by the same again," said First Impression managing director Murray Wolfe-Arbiter.

"Our work is highly polished and aimed at a quality market.

Naturally, working everyday with leading edge designers and international companies, we have to stay ahead of every significant development in our industry.

Screen's CTP has enabled us to increase production, keep staff on and increase revenues - we calculate the investment in the Platerite 8100 will have more than paid for itself within three years," said Wolfe-Arbiter.
