The Cavendish Press in Whetstone, Leicester (UK) has moved to direct to plate production investing in a fully-automated Screen B1 thermal CTP system with workflow to boost plate production The CTP system will enable Cavendish to handle increasing levels of short run, fast turn-around orders said Screen

Cavendish has installed the latest release of Screen's Trueflow workflow with Spekta screening, a fully automated B1 Platerite 8600 CTP device, large format proofing and automated archive management, all supplied by Litho Supplies.

"To ensure minimum disruption to our clients we decided to implement the project in two phases.

A couple of years ago in phase one we installed Screen's Taiga workflow and B1 imagesetting and have now updated this to the new 'Trueflow' operating system going direct to plate," said David Packer, the managing director of The Cavendish Press.

"Our plate requirements have increased steadily as our business grows and job run lengths become shorter year on year.

The Screen system, which is fully automatic including in-line plate punching, can operate with very little operator intervention and enables us to more than meet our plate needs with a reduced head count.

Since the CTP system has gone into production we have also had the added bonus of improved quality and press efficiency," explained Packer.

The single system, producing 20 B1 Fuji plates an hour, supplies both B1 and B2 plates to the company's five multi-colour presses.

The Cavendish Press is part of the Clondalkin Group, a multinational print and packaging organisation and is one of the group's UK and Irish cluster of print companies specialising in producing annual reports, greetings cards, marketing material, point of sale and brochures.

Today the company has a turnover of £5m and employs 67 staff.

It is a primary supplier with many blue chip companies, financial institutions, design agencies and print managers.

Cavendish also provides a secure online service to its clients enabling file submission and remote proofing.
