As part of a programme to upgrade its computer-to-plate facilities across Europe I Media Europe, the supplier of media entertainment packaging, has invested in 11 Screen Platerite CTP systems.

Installation of the B1 thermal Platerites in production sites across Europe will replace I Media's legacy CTP equipment and will be completed shortly.

The deal for Screen's B1 Platerite systems includes the eight-plates-per-hour (pph) Platerite 8100 and the 20 pph Platerite 8600.

They are being commissioned in I Media production centres in Austria (two systems), The Netherlands (5), Poland (1) and UK (3).

The Platerites will process over 300,000 square metres of plate material per year to supply a variety of Heidelberg, MAN Roland, KBA and Komori offset presses and will be used to produce primarily CD and DVD packaging for the music, film, computer games and software industries said Screen.

Screen said that the open nature of the Platerite interface will allow I Media to integrate the devices with its range of digital front end systems.

Furthermore, the company has automated all its new Platerites by equipping them with Screen's single and multi-plate plate autoloader units to enable unattended production.

The automation coupled with the Platerite's automatic in-line punching results in less operator involvement - important factors behind I Media's investment.

"We have changed to Screen as our preferred CTP partner because the company is a best of breed supplier with a range of solutions known for their excellent performance, automation and reliability," said Nick Toms, the chief exeuctive officer of I Media Europe.

"Stability and consistency go hand in hand with good service and these are key criteria for any supplier to I Media.

Plus, service is an important issue and we are impressed by a well-balanced mix of direct and indirect support provided by the company throughout Europe," he added.

Brian Forsdike, president of Screen Europe, said: "I Media's decision to choose Screen to supply its next-generation CTP equipment is a tremendous accolade for us and our technology.

The Group has strict production standards and we are extremely proud that we have not only met, but exceeded, all their requirements for automation, productivity and reliability." I Media Europe provides packaging to the European music, entertainment and multimedia markets.

The company employs 1,700 people on 19 sites spread across the UK, Eire, The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Germany, France and Australia and has annual revenues of around £220 million.
