JCB Offset and Drukkerij Atlanta in Belgium have installed Screen's B2 Platerite 4300 and B1 Platerite 8600 computer-to-plate systems with multi-cassette autoloader (MAL) option.

JCB Offset and Drukkerij Atlanta in Belgium have installed Screen's B2 Platerite 4300 and B1 Platerite 8600 computer-to-plate systems with multi-cassette autoloader (MAL) option.

The investment updates the companies' facilities with higher quality, automated, and more efficient systems than their current image setters provided, claimed Screen.

The Platerites were installed by Wifac Belgium.

JCB Offset, a pre-press and print firm in Wavre, prints brochures, magazines, leaflets and business stationery for local and national customers, which also include pre-press companies.

Based in Schaffen near Diest, Drukkerij Atlanta, a medium-sized commercial printer, also serving the national Belgium market, offers pre-press and proofing facilities in addition to basic print facilities.

For both companies the transition to direct-to-plate production was made to improve output quality and production reliability and to boost plate productivity to maximise the running time of their presses, said Screen.

Both JCB and Drukkerij Atlanta optimised their workflows by installing Screen's Trueflow 3 workflow with Spekta screening alongside the Platerites.

Trueflow 3 enables both JCB and Atlanta to move easily from a PDF and Postscript workflow into a JDF-based environment and achieve communication between MIS, pre-press, press and post-press operations.

Spekta, a hybrid AM/FM screening method, takes advantage of optical dot gain and enables users to reduce operating costs by reducing ink usage by up to 20 per cent, said Screen.

JCB and Atlanta wanted to move away from manual operation and with the MAL option, both printers now have continual plate feeding, imaging up to 500 plates of five different sizes without operator involvement.

The Platerites offer in-line punching and on-line processing and can image a range of thermal plates, said Screen.

Laurent Broze, owner of JCB Offset, commented: "We chose Screen as we can trust the reliability of the products and also because we were particularly interested in acquiring Trueflow.

Coupled with our good relationship with Wifac Belgium we were very happy to make this investment." Georges Pijpops, the owner of Drukkerij Atlanta, said: "We decided to make the transition to CTP as it offers a fast, accurate and high quality service which meets our increasing production needs.

Screen CTP and workflow appealed to us because we know it is reliable equipment and we wanted something we can trust.

We have a good relationship with Wifac Belgium and are happy with their high standard of customer service.".
