Folding carton manufacturer Mayr-Melnhof Packaging (MMP) has invested in a VLF Screen Platerite Ultima 32000 CTP system in its Deeside production facilities to support expansion.

Folding carton manufacturer Mayr-Melnhof Packaging (MMP) has invested in a VLF Screen Platerite Ultima 32000 CTP system in its Deeside production facilities to support the expansion of its packaging services.

The investment marks the MMP UK's first move in to CTP production and the 32-page Screen Platerite Ultima has increased plate production from two plates an hour to 23 plates an hour.

The Ultima supplies the company's MAN Roland and KBA offset presses that produce primarily carton packaging for companies in the food industry.

Commenting on the investment in the Platerite Ultima platesetter, Steve McGuinness, the operations director for MMP UK, said: "Our specific requirements of size flexibility, accuracy and production levels, combined with automation and reliability, led us to choose the Platerite Ultima.

The investment enables us to maximise efficiency, increase productivity and reduce waste." Brian Filler, the managing director of Screen UK, commented: "To be able to meet the high production standards of MMP is a huge endorsement for Screen and our technology.

The Platerite Ultimas are becoming increasingly popular in an environment where the trend is towards more jobs and shorter run lengths.".
