Optichrome Invests Further in CTP
Optichrome Printing Group, a successful general commercial printer, has invested in a further B1 computer-to-plate (CTP) system.
Based two hours flight-time from mainland Portugal, productivity and reliability were prerequisites for Nova Grafica when it came to upgrading its CTP system.
Ernesto Resendes, owner of Nova Grafica had previously invested in the Platerite 8100 and the company is now using both B1 CTP systems to boost plate production capacity from eight plates an hour to 28 plates an hour and better service its existing customers' tight deadlines and diverse locations.
With increased productivity and automation the company now has the added capacity to take on new customers and has started to produce Sao Miguel's new newspaper, Jornal dos Acores.
Delivered and installed by Portugal-based Screen distributor STAG, the Platerite 8600 will image Kodak plates to feed five two-colour and four-colour Heidelberg presses, a five-colour Komori Lithrone and a Sakurai Oliver single-colour press.
Nova Grafica prints primarily short runs of a variety of work including books, flyers, brochures, magazines, catalogues and, more recently, newspapers for a range of customers across the Azores, which includes advertising agencies, hotels, supermarkets, publishers and the local government.
Resendes is pleased with the investment: "We are in large demand due to our location and are pleased to be able to serve the islands more efficiently and effectively.
There's no doubt already that it has been the right decision." The Platerite 8600 is claimed to offer reliable CTP output at 20 plates an hour and, supported by the single plate autoloader option, users can take advantage of continual plate feeding, imaging up to 100 plates without operator involvement.
The Platerites offer in-line punching and on-line processing and can image a range of thermal and chemistry-free plates.
Paulo Santos, the managing director at STAG, said: "We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Nova Grafica for many years now and we were pleased to be able to advise them on the benefits of the Platerite 8600 for their expanding business.".
