At Ipex 06 Screen will expand its VLF Platerite Ultima range with the launch of two large format GLV-enabled thermal CTP systems - Platerite Ultima 24000 and the Platerite Ultima 36000.

At Ipex 06 Screen will expand its VLF Platerite Ultima range with the launch of two large format GLV-enabled thermal CTP systems - Platerite Ultima 24000 and the Platerite Ultima 36000 The two new VLF systems have been developed by Screen to complement the new larger format presses arriving on the market, such as the KBA 205, the MAN Roland 900XXL and Lithoman IV

The format and claimed high productivity make the CTP systems suitable for sheet-fed and web offset presses within commercial, magazine, book and packaging companies, believes Screen.

In addition, the ability to image two B1 plates simultaneously on the large-format devices effectively makes them the fastest B1 platesetters in the world and ideal to support multi-colour perfecting presses, claimed the company, with a full set of B1 punched plates produced for a 12-unit press in 15 minutes.

Both new platesetters feature the proven technology found in the Platerite Ultima 16000 and Ultima 32000, which were launched at Drupa 04.

The Platerite Ultima 24000, first previewed at Print 05 in October 2005, will make its operational debut at Ipex.

It is claimed to handle plate sizes up to a maximum 1,750mm x 1,400mm at a maximum speed of 29 plates every hour.

The Platerite Ultima 36000 is claimed to be the world's highest productivity CTP system in its class and will be introduced for the first time worldwide at Ipex 06.

The system outputs plate sizes up to a maximum 2,100mm x 1,600mm and, like the Ultima 24000, it is said to produce 29 plates per hour, and over 50 plates per hour when imaging two B1 plates simultaneously.

Both the new Platerite Ultimas feature next-generation GLVTM imaging technology that utilises a 512-channel imaging head and proven laser control technology to produce highly reliable halftone dot quality, added Screen.

With the Platerite Ultima 24000 and 36000 and large format plates, in-line punching is important for press accuracy and Screen said that it beleives it is unique in offering the feature as a standard on its VLF machines.

In-line punching has been proven to save hundreds of hours a year on press, in the company's opinion.

Screen claimed that it now supplies the most comprehensive range of CTP devices from two-page to 36-pages featuring some of the highest speeds, highest reliability and most comprehensive levels of automation.

Sales of both the Platerite Ultima 24000 and 36000 will begin in April 2006.
