At Ipex 2006 Screen will expand its range of platesetters with the addition of its first 4/6-page thermal platesetter, the Platerite 6600 The Platerite 6600 is a CTP device that is said to be capable of imaging intermediate plates larger than B2 (304mm x 370mm minimum to 980mm x 685mm maximum format)

It has been developed to support B2+ presses supplied by Ryobi, Goss and others due on to the market.

Screen believes that it now provides the widest range of platesetters for two-age, four-page, six-page, eight-page, 16-page, 24-page and 36-page applications.

Two models of the thermal Platerite 6600 are available depending on a printer's needs.

The entry level Platerite 6600E features 32 laser diodes and is said to operate at 18 plates per hour.

The Platerite 6600S features 64-laser diodes and is claimed to be capable of imaging 30 B2 plates an hour at 2,400 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.

The company said that users can upgrade easily from 18 plates per hour to 30 plates per hour on-site with minimum disruption.

By delivering that level of performance, Screen believes that the Platerite 6600 becomes the world's fastest B2 platesetter and the suitable for printers operating multi-colour B2 and B2 perfector presses.

The Platerite 6600 supports 1,200dpi, 2,400dpi, 2,438dpi and 2,540 dpi resolutions, and FM screening, such as Screen's hybrid screening system, SPEKTA2.

In addition to handling conventional thermal plates, The Platerite 6600 also supports the growing range of processless plates as standard, giving printers the option to choose the best option for their needs.

Following its debut at Ipex 2006 the Platerite 6600 will be commercially available worldwide from July.
