Major Series of Launches From Dainippon Screen
Drupa 2004 will see the launch of several production tools from Dainippon Screen, with more to fully later in 2004.
So the company looked for a system that would enable it to ensure that its creative work is reproduced accurately in every country.
Burrows was able to tailor Screen's Trueflow to the company's specific needs as well as integrate it in to its existing pre-press facilities.
Burrows uses 15 print suppliers throughout Europe and Trueflow enables those printers to be supplied with files whose output characteristics can be guaranteed, said Screen.
The Screen system produces fully PDF X/1a and PDFX 3 compliant Outline PDFs, but where the content has been turned in to vectors and all of its different parameters are fixed.
Burrows chose this route as it stops the files that it sends out to its different printers being re-processed - whatever CTP device is eventually used.
This gives complete data integrity with no reinterpretation of fonts, content or colours, added the company.
Another requirement was the need to work with different language versions of the same file.
Burrows' pre-press manager, Mike Dawson, said: "On some jobs we may have to produce 20 different market variations with up to 53 languages and Screen was able to come up with a system to handle this process automatically.
Jobs that could take all day are now produced in a couple of hours." He continued: "Because we manage pre-press in-house before distribution to external printers, the Outline PDF is perfect as it puts the control over results back in to the hands of the person creating the file and re-secures the PDF as an un-editable format.
The ability to lock down colour and content before files are dispatched to printers anywhere in the world gives us a high level of security and peace of mind.".
