London-based Armstrong Print Group is setting a benchmark for future growth with its investment in Screen pre-press technology.

The package includes a Platerite 4300 CTP platesetter incorporating its hybrid AM/FM Spekta half-tone screening system processless plates, JDF-enabled Trueflow 3.0 production software with a PDF PolisherIn module and an autoloader and stacker.

Installation was completed in February.

Tony Fairbairn, a director of Armstrong Print Group, said: "This is a significant investment in CTP technology for the Armstrong Print Group and represents the first step in a longer term strategic investment programme for the new company, which was formed out of a merger between Trident Printing and Safair Print Services in 2005." Fairbairn said the company has already witnessed significant benefits to its workflow since installing the Screen CTP package.

He explained: "The CTP system has made a considerable difference to our business over the past two months.

It's providing us with much faster make-readies, as well as greater accuracy and quality, all of which is dramatically increasing throughput in the repro department and increasing the speed of the plates to our range of single-colour, two-colour four-colour and five-colour Heidelberg presses." He added that although it is the company's first venture in to CTP, it has replaced a Screen 3050 Imagesetter, which the Armstrong had used for a number of years.

And whilst Armstrong Print Group did investigate a range of options when the decision was made to move in to CTP, the deciding factor was the strength of its existing relationship with Screen.

Fairbairn commented: "Keeping up with ever increasing customer demands requires constant investment to ensure your print production workflow is as efficient as possible.

It's all about recognising the most appropriate technologies for your business and partnering with suppliers who are prepared to not only sell you product but work with you over the long term." He continued: "We have always been provided with excellent service and support by Screen and in a market as time-critical as the printing industry, efficient and responsive service is as important as great technology.

You need to ensure if something does go down, it will affect you for the least amount of time.

Screen has always looked after us in this regard.".
