Environmentally conscious Manor Printing (UK) has reduced waste and lowered costs since the installation of Screen's Platerite 4300E thermal CTP unit and Trueflow 3 workflow The thermal CTP system is being used to image Kodak's Thermal Direct processless plates, which has helped the company earn the ISO 14000 accreditation for implementing environmentally friendly processes and systems

Chris Holloway, owner of Manor Printing, said: "Legislation governing sustainability, waste management and the release of harmful VOCs in to the environment is becoming increasingly stringent and soon every printer will have to assess their systems and processes to avoid receiving penalties or even closure.

Customers are beginning to ask questions about how their print is produced and want to know that their suppliers are taking steps to protect the planet.

As a result of these external forces, business owners will have to reinvest in greener processes so they are not left behind." Manor Printing, which was established in 1970, plans to move in to markets that promote and support environmentally friendly business practices, including universities, charities, local government divisions as well as, potentially, waste management and alternative energy suppliers.

Holloway continued: "We want to be ahead of the game when it comes to implementing ethical systems and practices, which is why we chose a processless plate operation via Screen's Platerite thermal CTP system.

The system has improved our competitive edge in many other ways and offered us a range of additional business benefits.

For example, our new platesetter is saving us a fortune in consumables, chemicals and labour time.

It also produces a sharper dot than our existing system, which allows us to offer our customers enhanced quality." And he added: "At 11 plates per hour, the new system has improved turnaround times and using the Trueflow 3 software means there are fewer margins for human error throughout the entire pre-press and printing process." As well as Manor Printing's Cotswolds site, the company has an outlet in London and produces business material, annual reports and marketing material to a range of local businesses.

In addition to its Screen CTP division and workflow, the company provides a full design service, owns Xerox digital printers, Heidelberg one, four and five colour lithographic presses and offers a complete finishing service in-house via Heidelberg, Duplo and Stahl equipment.
