Large Format CTP System's Registration Accuracy
Leeds (UK) company GRG Print has taken delivery of a Platerite Ultima 16000 large format CTP system from Screen as part of a GBP1.2million diversification project.
Leeds (UK) company GRG Print has taken delivery of a Platerite Ultima 16000 large format CTP system from Screen as part of a GBP1.2million diversification project.
The investment also includes the installation of a new VLF press and finishing department.
The development is the company's first step towards moving away from the traditional B1 print sector in to the larger format marketplace.
GRG is said to have been the first printer in the world to embrace CTP technology 15 years ago.
The new Platerite 16000, which is already operating around the clock and imaging around 2,000 Kodak plates per month, is the company's fifth CTP system to date.
John Grogan, managing director of GRG, said: "Installing the Platerite 16000 was an easy decision for us as we were already using a Screen Platerite system driven by Screen's Trueflow workflow with impressive results." As the only company in Yorkshire currently able to offer customers VLF print services, GRG's willingness to invest to enter a new market looks set to reap rewards, added Screen.
The level of investment the company has made in upgrading its print systems has enabled it to bid for a number of high-profile projects.
In addition, the Platerite Ultima 16000's ability to handle multi-size plates to a maximum size of 1,470mm x 1,165mm (minimum 650mm x 550mm) means GRG is able to retain its B1 client base and continue providing standard print sizes for clients as and when required, added the company.
The thermal Platerite Ultima 16000 installed at GRG includes an in-line punching function, whereby plates are punched immediately before being mounted on the drum.
Grogan said: "Like any other modern print business, we work to very tight deadlines and the ability to deliver quality material on time is of absolute importance.
The system's in-line punching facility enables greater registration accuracy at high-speed and supports faster press make-ready." Platerite 16000 uses Grating Light Valve (GLV) technology which, as well as enabling it to perform at high-speed, increases the amount of data that can be delivered to the plate surface for high-quality exposure, said Screen.
Grogan explained: "The majority of our business comes from the retail and travel industries and colour accuracy in these areas is extremely important to our clients.
Colour in the retail sector has to be absolutely accurate to imitate the real thing." He continued: "Images in a travel brochure need to be vibrant in order to draw the consumer in.
There is no margin for error when producing advertisements, posters, brochures and other point of sale prints that are used to sell products and brand names.
For this reason, we are pleased to have the most reliable and trusted technology on board with Screen's Platerite Ultima 16000." GRG, established in 2001, employs 24 people and has an annual turnover of GBP2million.
