With a claim that the company has produced the most productive platesetters so far, Screen has introduced its new VLF Platerite Ultima 24000 and 36000 SX platesetters.

The very large format (VLF) Platerite Ultima thermal platesetters are said to be the highest productivity machines yet and are equipped with Screen's latest GLV-X technology, which features 1,024 imaging channels (two x 60W LB per head) Screen added that the machines can achieve speeds of 28 full-size plates, or 44 B1 punched plates, per hour whilst maintaining quality

In addition to increased speed, the SX versions incorporate a number of developments that help ensure consistent high quality even when imaging on to the largest supported plates.

The VLF Platerite Ultima 24000 SX and 36000 SX expand Screen's range of VLF Ultima platesetters.

The company said that the range is designed to support sheet-fed and web presses and comprises the Platerite Ultima 16000 that produces a claimed 31 plates per hour and the twin-headed Platerite Ultima 24000Z and 36000Z platesetters that are capable of producing up to 59 plates per hour.

Screen also commented that recognising that a high level of automation is also a key factor in maximising CTP production and users' profitability, the company offers a range of scalable automated options.

The Platerite 24000SX and 36000SX are equipped with in-line registration punching and optional punching for printing presses, as well as auto-focus to ensure the optimum dot across the largest format plates.

With large format plates, inline punching is particularly important for press accuracy and Screen believes it is unique in offering the feature as standard on its VLF machines.

Semi-auto loader (SA-L) and multi cassette (MA-L) plate loaders are also available.

The company explained that press manufacturers MAN Roland and KBA have introduced presses that require plates over two metres wide and the VLF Platerite Ultima platesetter range is suitable for them.

The automatic plate handling features found in all Screen's CTP devices are said to benefit full-size plates of 2,100mm x 1600mm.

The Platerite 24000 SX and Platerite 36000 SX machines have the ability to feed B1 plates two at a time resulting in even higher productivity.

The VLF Ultima platesetters will be commercially available for installation from August.

Rob Hageman, Screen Europe's European CTP product manager, said: "These two SX machines are the first to utilise Screen's new generation GLV imaging head.

With more power, GLV-X can generate a unique 1,024 imaging lines.

This means we are able to provide very high quality at full speed giving us pole position in plate making.".
