Flatbed Printer Meets Promo Print Demands
Screen has provided an Inca Spyder 150 flatbed printer to respond to a demand for high quality, short-run promotional material for retail clients operating in the FMCG sector.
The Spyder has been installed at B D and H Printers because of its claimed high quality output at high production speeds and its ability to print directly on to a range of rigid surfaces, such as polystyrene and PVC up to 30mm thick.
The Inca Spyder 150 completes B D and H's quest to offer a range of services to fit every creative brief and budget, said the company.
Originally working with screen, litho and roll to roll large format digital printers, B D and H Printers operates a KBA Genius litho sheet-fed press that printed on to plastics and carton up to A3 in size and a Zund roll-to-roll system for producing banners and flexible materials.
In addition, its screen operation offers flexibility in substrates and size.
However, what was missing was a machine that could take on very short runs by imaging directly on to a range of rigid stocks, whilst providing speed and quality.
James Fox, director of B D and H Printing, said: "It was okay to use our roll-to-roll machine to produce point of sale and promotional material up to a point but the process of laminating, mounting and varnishing was time consuming, incurring greater costs through labour and materials.
In addition, the registration and quality wasn't always acceptable.
We realised that if we were to be taken seriously by our customers in the production of internal and external poster, display and POS work, we needed to take on board a flatbed that would enhance quality and make the production of lower volumes financially viable." After establishing the need for a new machine, B D and H consulted long-term supplier Screen about Inca's range of digital flatbed printers, whilst also reviewing a number of competing machines on the market, before opting for the 150 model.
Fox explained: "The Inca Spyder 150 is a high production flatbed printer that is capable of delivering quality results that we consider to be superior to screen printing.
As Inca's smallest flatbed printer, the system fits neatly in to our operation and has been designed to be the only Inca machine that produces an eye-catching gloss finish, which is perfect for helping our client's marketing materials stand out in the competitive retail graphics environment.
We are now equipped to produce indoor and outdoor display work and high quality POS applications for the likes of Nestle and other leading brand manufacturers." B D and H was established in 1987 from a merger between lithographic company Hutchins Litho and B D Studios.
The company uses Screen's Trueflow workflow to connect its Screen Platerite 4300 thermal CTP system to its KBA litho and Xerox and Zund digital printing departments.
The company employs 27 staff and has a turnover of GBP2 million.
