The Platerite News 2000+ has been added by Screen to its range of platesetters for newspapers looking for consistent quality, said the company.

Claimed to produce 106 broadsheet plates, or 49 panorama plates an hour the Platerite News 2000+ is said by Screen to be its fastest platesetter and to be suitable for fast-moving production in the newspaper sector The system incorporates the latest Screen thermal imaging technology, which the company said has been fine tuned over a number of years for commercial printing applications

Four standard image settings provide a choice of resolutions - 1,000 dots per inch (dpi), 1,016dpi, 1,200dpi and 1,270dpi - and support for Screen's Spektra AM/FM screening is said to enable the production of heightened quality with ordinary screen rulings.

Screen said that the demand for high levels of quality is driven partly by the increasing volume of colour pages in newspapers and the greater production of quality magazine supplements.

That, in turn, has led to growth in the use of thermal plates in the sector.

The Platerite News 2000+ features a 64-channel laser diode imaging head to image plates from 460mm x 290mm (18.1" x 11.4") up to a maximum plate size of 980mm x 685mm.

Automated plate loading and unloading for unattended operation is standard, as is dual plate loading, providing the ability to load two broadsheet plates simultaneously for further increases in productivity, added Screen.

The platesetter is supported by the Trueflow Rite News automated workflow system, which is said to be designed for newspaper production and provides the necessary functions for CTP output of newspaper plates.

Screen product manager, Rob Hageman, said: "Regional newspapers that want a combination of high speed, consistency and quality will find what they are looking for in the Platerite N2000S+.

Excellent colour quality and registration can be achieved with Spekta screening for newspapers.".
