As the doors closed on the last day of Digital Print World, the show was declared a unanimous success by 140-plus exhibitors and an outstanding 4272 visitors, 14 per cent more than last year, and many of them in serious buying mode.

A wide cross-section of visitors, from commercial printers and repro houses to large corporate inplants, publishers, print buyers and marketing and design agencies from all over the UK, attended the show looking to evaluate and invest in workflow, digital prepress, printing and finishing.

Organisers IIR Exhibitions introduced several new marketing, format and content initiatives that were welcomed by exhibitors and visitors alike, including an innovative series of 'Digital Print In Action' seminars.

Charlie Hastings, marketing director for Digital Print World, said: 'It's been a fantastic show and proves that the focus, the structure, the timing and the decision to move to a new venue are all just right'.

Business was brisk with many companies confirming orders at the show.

Peter Jolly, UK marketing manager for Duplo, said: 'We saw a fantastic amount of people, many with the intention of buying kit.

'We sold four of our finishing systems at the show and recorded a third more leads over the course of the show, compared to last year.

'We saw a huge surge in the quality of visitors with many coming from a variety of different market sectors.

DPW is a great place to do business and meet with many of our partner organisations'.

Geoff Hobbin, channel manager at Canon, said: 'We saw a consistent flow of visitors and are pleased at the wide range of customers IIR has promised and delivered, from high street and commercial printers to government and county council inplants.

'The quality of enquiries we have seen has been especially good compared to last year and we have seen particular interest in our iR150VP digital press.

'We are already committed for DPW 06, with a bigger stand ready to show our offerings after launch at Ipex'.

'We are pleased to have made over £200,000 of sales and over 11 orders in the first two days,' explained John Clason, national sales manager, Morgana Systems, 'and have had a steady stream of enquiries from serious buyers with very few tyre kickers.

'We were pleased to get some overseas business too as we secured an offer from The Falkland Islands'.

'There has been a lot of interest in the Indigo Press 5000 and we have sold two at the show,' said Paul Randall, UK marketing manager for Hewlett Packard.

'Digital print is now a mass market technology, which is stable, and commercial printers are looking to understand how it will work in their business workflow'.

Digital Print World returns to Earls Court 2 in 2006 from 17 -19 October.

Already two-thirds booked with key industry players such as Canon, Duplo, Kodak and Quark committed, DPW 06 will continue to expand its digital focus with several new initiatives already planned.

Richard Gayle, event manager for Digital Print World, said: 'Coming six months after IPEX, DPW is perfectly timed to give customers the opportunity to get a longer and closer look at systems which were launched earlier in the year'.
