There will be a range of seminars and opportunities to learn more about the business and technology of digital print at this year's Digital Print World (October 17-19 October, Earls Colour 2) London This year, the main themes of the seminars reflect the key issues in digital print today, said Digital Print World's organiser, IIR Exhibitions

They include maximising investment in digital technology, colour management' web-to-print, workflow and personalisation.

The Xplor Document University will feature at the show for the first time and will cover a range of subjects, such as '1:1 marketing and integrated communications', 'Transitions from litho to digital print', 'The changing world of digital print' and 'Intelligent document tracking'.

Over two days, industry experts will address the issues during half-day sessions costing GBP105 (GBP85 for members and GBP25 for students) per session.

The Spotlight on Pre-Press seminars will cover a range of subjects important for those investing in digital print, said IIR.

The seminars will run across the first two days of the show and are free to attend.

Colour management will be an important theme, with NCS Group, Colourbyte and Kodak all giving various perspectives on the subject.

Web-to-print and workflow is analysed in depth by Artwork Systems, Pro2col, Art Systems, Filetransfer, Printsoft and NCS Group.

Positive Focus will look at ways of making personalisation easy and profitable, added IIR.

In the Quark Seminar Theatre (which is also free to visitors), Quark will demonstrate the power and creativity of its latest Quark Xpress 7.

Here too, XL Training and Xerox explain how to maximise investment in digital technology, whilst Xeretec will analyse the importance of colour management within digital workflows.

Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE) will advise on quality assured booklet production and, in conjunction with the Association of Print Managers (APCOM), it will present 'In Demand On Demand Systems for the Modern Service Provider'.

Aside from the range of seminars, there will also be other educational opportunities available to the visitor.

Launched initially at DPW 05, XL Training has formed training partnerships with Xerox to provide system sales training for its clients.

XL said it is committed to delivering sales training to the digital and graphic communications sector in the UK and EMEA.

Xerox said that it believes its market specific focus gives it an understanding of industry evolution, issues and relevant sales strategies and processes.

The company will be presenting the Profitaccelerator Digital Business Resource, a business tool to achieve growth, improvements in personnel and ultimately increase profit across areas from creative to business development, added Xerox.

Ian Swarbrick, managing director of XL Training said: "Training is often overlooked, yet is a vital part of personnel development and the skill set required for successfully selling colour digital is different to that needed for selling conventional litho print." The National Printing Skills Centre will also be launching two new educational training opportunities for the print and graphic arts sector.

These are the Foundation Degree in Print Management and UK wide NVQ training under the Government's 'train to gain' banner.

The Foundation Degree is said to be the first of its kind in the UK specifically for the print and graphic arts industry and comprises technical and production units alongside management modules to ensure that students get the all round skills and knowledge required for today's industry said the college.

The course is available, part-time, for people already working but who want to develop their careers, as well as on a full-time basis.

'Train to gain' is an initiative to encourage people to undertake NVQ training in the workplace.

Subjects offered are pre-press/DTP, machine printing (digital, flexo, litho, gravure and screen), print finishing and print administration.

The course comprises assessment visits by specialist assessors, alongside a portfolio of evidence that the student puts together.

The NVQ takes around nine months to complete and full funding maybe available (subject to criteria) to companies to support their staff through the qualification.

HP will also showcase its series of e-learning courses, including 'marketing in the digital world', 'building your variable data business' and 'web-to-print'.

Richard Gayle, IIR's event manager, said: "There is a real incentive for visitors to attend Digital Print World this year.

Not only do we have two sets of free seminars, there are plenty of new learning opportunities available for those looking to build a career in the diverse world of print.".
