Water-washable ink solves platemaking problem

A Domino Printing Sciences plc product story

A new ink enables essential instructional data to be printed onto printing plates

When a printing plate is produced for a specific roller on the press, and requires inking with a particular colour, this information is traditionally handwritten on the reverse side of the plate and is therefore not visible once the plate has been fitted to the press.

In the past, this method has resulted in human error, causing lost press time and wasted product.

Now, Domino has launched a new ink that enables essential instructional data to be printed onto printing plates and then removed prior to production.

The specialist water-washable ink - I-006RG - means that handwritten instructions can now be replaced by printed information, in the form of alphanumeric details on the plate.

This development means that as the plate exits the platemaking equipment, the essential information can be printed onto the front of the plate.

The data relating to each press is contained in a barcode, pre-printed by the platemaker on the edge of the plate, read by a scanner connected to the machine (A - series), enabling human-readable identification details to be printed.
