Staff at ink jet and laser manufacturer, Domino Printing Sciences, has won a national accolade for its contribution to the company's success in the Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2005.
The award for People Effectiveness recognises the input of Domino staff and their proactive involvement in all aspects of the company's operation, referred to as 'The Domino Effect'.
The company has announced an increase of seven per cent for its half-year just ended, compared to the same period last year.
'The Domino Effect' incorporates a series of value statements and strategies that outline the company's culture and attitude to teamwork, clear communication and focus.
The programme also covers Domino's commitment to meeting customer needs and developing and caring for its people, whilst rewarding and celebrating success.
As an integral part of the award submission, Domino highlighted its manufacturing practice, in which each stage of the process is handled by individual teams with the empowerment to run as a small business.
Belinda Prior, production manager at Domino explained: "Each team has its own name, values, mission statement and objectives, against which a number of performance measurements are applied.
That involves clear and timely communication, monitoring and goal alignment so that each team is aware of whether their part of the process is on track." Vicki Sanderson, the company's HR manager added: "Domino has long been recognised as a company where people matter.
Internal staff development and training has always been high on our agenda and many people in senior roles started in junior positions, working their way up the ladder.
We are delighted that these initiatives have now been formally recognised by such a coveted award." Domino employs 500 staff in the UK, in Bar Hill, Cambridgeshire, Liverpool and Stirling.
For 25 years, The Manufacturing Excellence Awards have been acknowledged as rewarding excellence and best practice in UK manufacturing.
Led by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, MX2005 is also supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, Kellysearch, RSM Robson Rhodes, Barclays and IBM.
