In response to demand from customers, Domino Printing Sciences has launched an ink formulation for use in its flagship A-Series continuous ink jet printer range.

It is claimed to be the first ethanol-based ink able to run for 1,200 hours without an airdryer, resulting in improved efficiencies and workflow.

The new 191BK black ink is completely ketone-free and methanol-free.

As a result, its low taint content makes it suitable for a range of general purpose applications, such as flexible food packaging, as well as confectionery and pharmaceutical uses.

The ink's adhesion properties make it suitable for printing on to various substrates including PVC, PET, nylon, glass, stainless steel and aluminium.

Andrew Gunton, Domino's fluids product manager, commented: "This new robust and reliable ink is the result of a major in-house development programme by our highly qualified chemists following an extensive period of thorough testing and evaluation.

Key to the development is the use of an advanced dye, which offers superior solubility and stability within the ink formulation.

In addition, the inclusion of compatible polymers enables unique performance levels to be achieved, particularly in terms of water tolerance levels.

Customers are demanding high-quality, easy to read coding and marking and with 191BK we're offering an ethanol-based ink that can run for 1,200 hours without an airdryer." Depending on the substrate and ambient temperature, the inks properties are said to provide a quick drying time of around two seconds, allowing printers to maintain typical production speeds and job turn-around times.

The 191BK ink is available in standard A-Series cartridges and reservoirs and has a shelf life of up to 12 months from the date of manufacturing.

In addition to the 191BK ink, Domino offers two other ethanol-based inks for its A-Series printers - the 138BK and the 129BK inks.
