At this year's Drinktec exhibition, Domino Printing Sciences, will be showcasing the new S200WB scribing laser system, which builds on the S200 laser to offer higher speeds and increased performance.

At this year's Drinktec exhibition, Domino Printing Sciences, will be showcasing the new S200WB scribing laser system, which builds on the S200 laser to offer higher speeds and increased performance, especially in PET applications Offering a wider mark field, which allows printing of larger codes, the S200WB uses Domino's blue laser tube technology, which produces a clearer and more crystalline code contrast on PET, said the company

The S200WB is claimed to offer the ability to code even thin walled PET bottles without risk of piercing and is specifically designed for operation in harsh environments, such as bottling plants, where regular wash down is required.

Two-line code printing at claimed speeds of up to 152 metres per minute is achieved, due to an increase in field size of more than 50 per cent available to track the product.

Using CO2 laser technology to produce permanent codes on a variety of substrates, the S-Series has been developed to offer a simple, high quality and cost-efficient coding solution, said Domino.

In addition, Domino will showcase the new DSL1 L50 scribing laser system, which has been designed for high speed label coding applications in the beverage industry.

The laser head and range of accessories are said to ensure integration on to all major OEM labellers for coding labels on the pallet station or bottle table.

Claimed to provide consistent, clear codes from single-line batch codes to multiple lines with real time and data information, the DSL1 L50 produces two lines of code at speeds in excess of 70,000 bottles per hour (bph).

The system uses Dynamark software for code set-up, whilst the full size keyboard and large colour display ensure accurate set up and printing of messages, added the company.

At Drinktec, visitors to the Domino stand will be able to see live demonstrations of the IP65 designed DSL1 L50, which will be linked to a Krones cold-glue labelling system.

Also on display will be Domino's large character ink jet printers designed to offer a range of high and low-resolution coding and marking capabilities that are specific to end user requirements.

The printers provide high-contrast, contact-free print quality and are suitable for outer case coding of corrugated cases.

To maximise cost savings, graphics, bar codes and text can be printed on to blank cases, eliminating the need for pre-printed cases, minimising inventory and simplifying production with no compromise in quality, said the company.

The A-Series, which ic claimed to be the world's best-selling continuous ink jet printer, with more than 50,000 installations worldwide, will also be on show at Drinktec.

the range includes the XS, which Domino said codes at up to 30 per cent faster than regular A300 coding.

In addition, visitors will have the chance to see the IP66 designed A300SE continuous ink jet printer, which is for harsh conditions, such as sugar or dust laden environments.

The system prevents the penetration of particles, whilst the closed cooling system ensures constant high-performance even at high temperatures.

For the A-Series printers, Domino offers a range of inks specifically developed for the beverage industry to print on to bottles covered in condensation, for example.

The inks are also said to be resistant to refrigeration and storage in iced water, which means they won't rub off, or smear.

The codes can be removed by alkali washing processes used to clean re-usable bottles.

In addition, Domino has developed pigmented inks to provide high-contrast codes on dark surfaces and special inks for LDPE and HDPE (low density and high density polyethylene).
