Larger Codes Possible With New Scribing Lasers
Domino Printing Sciences has launched its S200W and S200WB scribing laser systems for coding applications.
Domino Printing Sciences has launched its S200W and S200WB scribing laser systems for coding applications.
Claimed to provide a wider mark field that allows printing of larger codes, the two variants build upon the S200, part of Domino's S-Series line of scribing lasers and meet the demands of higher production line speeds.
Domino believes that the new lasers are suitable for PET beverage applications, the compact S200WB uses Domino's blue laser tube technology, which produces a clearer and more crystalline code contrast on PET.
The S200WB also offers the ability to code even thin walled PET bottles without risk of piercing and is specifically designed for operation in harsh environments such as bottling plants, where regular wash down is required.
The S200W and S200WB achieve a larger mark field of 76mm x 76mm (3" x 3") instead of the existing 50mm x 50mm (2" x 2") when using a 120mm FL lens.
The increase in field size of over 50 per cent offers a greater area to track products and allows, for example, the S200WB to manage two-line print coding at higher speeds of up to 152m (500ft) per minute in PET applications, said Domino.
The S200W and S200WB use a laser beam steered by scanning technology to provide consistent, permanent clear codes, from single-line batch codes to multiple lines with real time data.
Developed for use in demanding production environments, the lasers come fitted with high-resolution optics as standard to offer a smaller spot size and increased marking speed, added the company.
As a result, the reduction in line-width of 35 per cent produces codes that are highly legible, even for characters as small as 0.8mm.
As with Domino's S200, a visible laser diode aiming beam is fitted to simplify laser focusing and code position adjustment.
Colin Mills, director of Domino's Laser Division, commented: "The S200W and S200WB harness our proven expertise in scribing laser technology to offer users even greater performance, speed and reliability.
The S200WB variant has been developed to answer particular needs in the beverage sector to suit a continued requirement for complex coding of PET applications without compromising on speed or quality." The S200W and S200WB offer a colour touch-screen interface and SVGA quality display control language with familiar keys for quick code set up and editing.
Thanks to a Windows based Dynamark software package, minimum operator training is required, said Domino.
The new products have been designed to IP55 standard for harsh environments.
Using CO2 laser technology, the S-Series produces permanent marking of text, graphics and variable data on a variety of substrates, such as paper, plastic, glass and cartons.
