Coding Printers' Increased Uptime With
New System
Domino Printing Sciences has launched a Multi-head Base system for its high-resolution C-Series printer range.
Domino Printing Sciences has launched a Multihead Base system for its high-resolution C-Series printer range The Multihead Base is an ink base that is claimed to run up to four C-Series high-resolution piezo print heads from the C1000 to C6000i and is compatible with Domino's full range of ink colours

Domino's Inkjet Finds Niche With Software Printer
Beshara Press, the niche printing company for the software publishing industry, has invested in a Domino A400 to produce unique numbers on the back cover of manuals.
Using a high-capacity ink system, the Multihead Base is said to offer new two-litre ink bottles.
The larger ink capacity reduces the number of bottle changes, thus making it suitable to production lines with high throughput.
Additionally, the base incorporates an internal ink reservoir, which increases efficiency by reducing ink bottle change-over times and avoiding the need for printer shutdown.

Domino has made the shipment of its 50,000th A-Series printer - what it claims to be the world's best-selling continuous inkjet printer.
Total Variable Data Ink Jet Printing On Show
The commercial printing division of Domino, will exhibit the latest product from its range of variable data print systems at Labelexpo Americas - the ON Demand system.
As a result, longer print runs can be achieved with less user intervention, said Domino.
Commented James Sturt, Domino's outer case coding product manager: "The new C-Series Multihead Base provides customers with greater flexibility because it's compatible with our full range of high-resolution C-Series printers, which ensures that customers with simple coding requirements can receive all of the operational benefits associated with the base unit.
Customers can also run different types of heads from the same base, thus increasing efficiency enormously.
In addition, the ability to mount the base remotely from the print heads offers far greater safety measures for workers as ink bottles can be changed without entering the guarded area.
This reduces the risk of injury and prevents line stoppages." He said that companies are constantly faced with the new demands by end-customers and the new system provides a competitive solution for multiple printer applications.
"At the same time it meets some specific market requirements, such as the introduction of larger capacity ink containers and a central housing of ink supply for multiple printers.
The configuration of the Multihead Base can easily be changed, giving a clear upgrade path to satisfy future customer requirements.
Customers with the Multihead Base will be able to add to their systems, with only the cost of the print head and cable set," he added.
The choice of base cable length of either 1.5m or 3m allows the print head to be mounted remotely from the base, both above and on opposite sides of the conveyor.
For print heads mounted on elevated conveyors, it allows the base unit to be positioned at a convenient height for operators.
At the same time, it avoids the need to access the far side of the conveyor during ink bottle replacement.
With fewer ancillaries required for multiple head applications, the C-Series Multihead Base provides a more compact installation, believes Domino.
Without the need for individual accessory connection boxes, beacons, serial inputs, shaft encoder signal splitters and multiple photocells, the installation is said to be easy to manage and cost effective.
It also results in a much tidier installation, improving the appearance of the system.
A single cable communications port allows a single serial device, such as a checkweigher to send data to more than one print head.
Both of those features help to reduce the cost and complexity of multiple head installation, it is claimed.
Print heads of different types can run from the same base, giving full flexibility with carton coding requirements where coding on the side of a case may involve using more than one type of print head.
For example, a company logo may be required as large as possible, whilst the size requirement for batch numbers, sell-by-dates or box count is less important.
Thanks to its versatility, customers are able to run a C6000 and C1000 from the same Multihead Base.
An integrated distribution panel allows the Multihead Base to take a single input from a shaft encoder or photocell to send signals to each attached print head, thus reducing the number of cables between the printers and reducing the space required between print heads, added the company.
Domino's C-Series high-resolution large character ink jet printers use piezo technology to print bar codes, text and graphics on to porous substrates, such as corrugated outer cases, trays and sacks and Domino believes that the C-Series makes it a cost-efficient alternative to costly label printing.
