Domino UK Limited has been selected by GS1 UK, part of the worldwide GS1 network specialising in cross-sector supply chain standards, as a GS1 UK authorised training centre (GS1 UK ATC).

Domino will be hosting a series of introductory courses on GS1 bar code standards and the benefits and business applications at its training facilities in Cambridge and Bristol (UK).

The GS1 Group develops and promotes open standards for supply and demand chain management.

These standards, known as the GS1 System, are used by companies to help manage supply chains in an efficient and cost effective manner.

The system ensures that all companies adhere to the same standards not only in bar coding and scanning, but also e-business messaging, data synchronisation and radio frequency identification (RFID).

Gary Appleyard, GS1 UK's training manager, commented: "Domino easily satisfied all of our selection criteria.

With its excellent reputation, long standing expertise in the field of bar coding standards, and continuing infectious enthusiasm for educating and informing existing and potential users, Domino UK was the obvious choice to become a certified training centre for us.

I'm very much looking forward to working with the Domino team in the coming months." The introductory GS1 scheduled course, has been developed in response to retailer frustration at poor standards of bar coding from some suppliers, said Domino.

Delegates will be given the latest up-to-date training on the GS1 bar code system, the business implications and benefits, as well as how to create identification numbers and show them as bar codes on individual products.

The course will also cover the choice of different bar codes for retail, outer packaging and pallets, how to ensure quality printed output of the bar codes, as well as a brief introduction to RFID.

Gary Girling, marketing executive at Domino UK, added: "This is a tremendous opportunity for Domino and we're really looking forward to using our own expertise and experiences to bring an added dimension to the course.

Domino has a number of expert trainers in this field and we are confident that delegates will receive a first-class service." The cost of the one day introductory course is GBP200, plus VAT for members of GS1 UK and GBP250, plus VAT for non-members.
