Following what it described as extensive research in to manufacturers' requirements, inkjet and laser systems provider, Domino Printing Sciences, is set to roll out its new C-Series Plus range The C-Series Plus is an extension of the company's outer case coders, ancillaries and software

With what Domino claimed to be new printer software for an open systems approach, as well as features, such as new interface tools, brand new Ethernet and database connectivity capabilities, the C-Series plus coders will improve the overall effectiveness of manufacturer's operations by providing increased productivity, flexibility and quality, whilst meeting the needs of the whole supply chain.

Supported by a sales and service network, the C-Series Plus range, which includes the C1000+, C3000+ and C6000+ variants, is claimed to provide standard alpha numeric coding to a full case decorating suite for enhanced, complex late stage coding of packaging.

Customers will also benefit from the recently launched multi-head base - a high-capacity, cost effective ink system for multiple printer applications, that is suitable for production lines with high throughput, claimed the company.

Mike Hurst, product director for outer case coding at Domino, commented: "Our research has shown that many companies are focusing on lean manufacturing to achieve productivity and increased profitability in the face of intense global competition.

As a result, the user-friendly C-Series Plus range has been designed to directly improve the measured performance of production and improve overall equipment effectiveness by reducing inefficiencies incurred using old, mechanical, manual or labelling systems." He added: "Our outer case coders are well known globally for their quality and reliability.

Enhanced with new features, the C-Series Plus models are suitable for a wider range of application scenarios and address the challenging demands by customers for large and complex print requirements and multiple print heads." The C-Series Plus range is said to provide a number of advantages via new interface tools and provides an open systems approach allowing manufacturers to integrate the printer in to existing IT infrastructures, whilst ensuring data security for the printed information.

Based on a combination of OPC servers and Windows drivers, the new integrated software suite enables non-proprietary message creation and downloads.

The printer software can also be configured individually to meet specific customer requirements, said Domino.

The company also added that due to new database connectivity features and message retrieve capabilities, print data can be integrated from a single external or central data source, reducing the burden of complicated data management.

Storing all messages centrally reduces set up times enormously and reduces the opportunity for error.

Additionally, real time status monitoring from a single database source results in reduced operator intervention, increases productivity and allows manufacturers to calculate the overall effectiveness of the printer, it is said.

The C-Series Plus range provides Ethernet connectivity as a standard, enabling coders to be networked for print arrays, centrally controlling factory or enterprise wide coding systems, which in return minimises user errors.

As part of its new Plus range, Domino has also launched a new set of support products specifically designed for C-Series Plus users.

Comprising what are described as a flexible set of modules that can be used in combination to meet a variety of customer needs, the Totalcare Plus programme is said to allow manufacturers to choose the best support model, from fully outsourced, to a self-sufficient approach.

Totalcare Plus provides customers with a predictable cost of ownership and ensures high equipment effectiveness over a long period, said Domino.

Hurst explained: "The C-Series Plus models can be easily integrated in to existing production facilities and make generic case coding a simple operation.

In particular on demand inkjet printing on to blank cases allows manufacturers to quickly respond to market needs and short runs.

We are delighted with the extended capabilities of our new secondary packaging system, and having listened to manufacturers worldwide, we are confident that this new range will address their specific coding and marking needs and help improve overall equipment effectiveness.".
