New York Typeface Show Premiere At Drupa
2008
The Drupa 2008 exhibition will stage the word premiere of The 54th show by Type Directors Club of New York (TDC).
The Drupa organisers said that 225 award-winning works will be on display for exhibition visitors in hall four at the show, on stand F 51 Students under Professor Gertrud Nolte of the Faculty of Design at the Wurzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences designed and produced the stand, communications and advertising material as part of a semester project

The organisers of the Drupa 2008 exhibition are trying to smooth the way for visitors to gain an overview of individual themes with guided tours spotlighting current industry developments.
Drupa Workshops Fulcrum Of Knowledge Transfer
Intensive daily workshops will provide an important cornerstone of the Drupa 2008 exhibition's knowledge transfer programme to help visitors to plan their time at the show more effectively.
The result of their efforts is a red stand with the appearance of a skyline.
From its beginnings as a members-only competition for the users of type on New York's Madison Avenue (the traditional centre of the American city's advertising businesses, the award is said to have grown in to the world's highest typography and graphic design honour.
It is claimed that an award from the Type Directors Club of New York is considered the equivalent of an film industry Oscar for typography and is known to provide a platform for people's success whilst earning winners points in creative rankings.
Drupa's organisers said that 2,100 entries from 33 countries came under the judges' scrutiny in the latest competition.
More than half of entries were from the USA, followed by Germany (378), Japan (82), Canada (81), UK (53) and Spain (40).
For the first time in TDC history, entrants from India were also recorded.
Bertram Schmidt-Friderichs, TDC chairman for Germany, said: "The standard of work is extremely high this year and the spectrum of work ranges from in-your-face advertising to political or social campaigns.
There were also designs for the layout of glossy magazines, such as the New York Times Magazine in addition to annual reports and calendars." Amongst past winners are people from the creative scene, globally active advertising and design agencies and small companies as well as yet unknown designers.
Stefan Sagmeister, whose client list includes the Guggenheim Museum, Time Warner and rock music band The Rolling Stones,received an award for his book 'Things I Have Learned In my Life So Far'.
"To truly appreciate typography, you have to let yourself fall under its spell.
Good typography has an almost magical attraction, created by subtle quality and sensitivity," said Professor Nolte.
