DSTi Output, the UK one-to-one transactional mail company, is investing GBP 20 million in a second production site following a series of new business wins.

The expenditure is in addition to GBP 10 million recently invested in the company's current production facility in Bristol.

DSTi Output, part of DST Systems, was created following the acquisition of GE Capital's UK mailing house by DST International in 2002.

Following an initial period of exclusivity the company has been awarded a number of substantial contracts including, CPP, IFDS and ING Direct.

Tim Delahay, the chief executive officer of DSTi Output, said: "Over the past 18 months we've secured a number of new business wins and, in-line with our strategic growth plans, it's important we establish a second major production site in the UK.

We're finding that businesses are waking up to the fact that more can be done with their transactional mail and we've got the technology and expertise in place to deliver true one-to-one communications to an organisation's customer and prospect base." The new site, set for completion in 2006, will be located in the Midlands and will employ around 120 employees, adding to the 200 plus already working at the company's current sites.

It will also contain the latest in digital printing equipment, which will work in unison with the company's HiOutput systems, added Delahay.

HiOutput is an integrated system that allows mail to be printed in full colour on to white paper, eliminating the cost of pre-printed base stock and with it, minimising redundant and obsolete stock.

The variability of the HiOutput system is claimed to allow each piece of mail to be personalised to an individual customer and prospect, making the correspondence much more effective.

Delahay added: "In today's marketplace, whether it's attracting new customers or increasing the spend of exisiting ones, it's crucial that businesses offer services or products that their target audiences will be most interested in purchasing.

Most businesses are already developing a wealth of knowledge about their customers through, for example, CRM databases and our HiOutput product unleashes the power of that information through a truly one-to-one transactional mailing.

Our customers have experienced their usual two per cent response rates being uplifted to 20 per centy and higher." In addition to producing true personalised mail, HiOutput is also claimed to allow businesses to have transparent access to their mailing campaigns through a secure web portal, so they can see in real time where their mail is.

The extranet gives businesses the flexibility to change details on a layout up to 24 hours before a print run, allowing for late changes without putting the fulfilment date back.
