Dalim Software has won a Macworld Best of Show Award for its new, stand-alone, Macintosh OS X-compatible Dialogue server.
At the Macworld CreativePro Conference and Expo in New York City, the award was one of 12 made by US Macintosh magazine Macworld to what it said was the most exciting hardware and software products announced at the event.
Dialogue provides users with an on-line facility to provide remote and collaborative viewing and soft proofing of high-resolution files via the Internet.
Because it has the claimed ability to stream data to the browser, users can view the file in high resolution to approve single and imposed pages from any location in real time.
Users, such as photographers, advertising agencies and designers can give their customers the ability to view, zoom in and out, navigate (via a navigator palette), place annotations (virtual post-it notes), draw to highlight areas, take densitometer readings, check production parameters, (page size, resolution, etc.) and, even chat in real time.
It is said to be possible for participants to validate files online.
These facilities are available from a web browser, without additional plug-ins.
Dialogue is able to display most popular file formats- such as PDF, PDF/X, PostScript, DCS, CT/LW, TIFF, TIFF-IT, TIFF-IT/P1 etc, and uses the latest Java2 and XML technologies.
While previous versions have been built for Linux platforms and are typically used in conjunction with Dalim's Twist and Swing workflow programs, Dalim expect the new version to operate under the Macintosh OS X Jaguar operating system, and is specifically designed as a stand-alone product.
"Dalim Software's Dialogue combines the Mac's traditional strength in design and publishing with OS X's Unix compatibility," said Jason Snell, editor of Macworld.
"Thanks to Dalim Software's long experience in the publishing industry and in developing Unix-based products, Dialogue comes to OS X with a collection of features that you don't usually see from a new product on any platform.
Porting and optimising the application to Mac OS X opens the door to us for new opportunities," said Gee Ranasinha, Dalim's director of marketing.
