Dalim Software and Xitron have entered in to partnership to offer Xitron's Navigator RIP, running on the Linux operating system, to Dalim Software customers worldwide.

Dalim Software and Xitron have entered in to partnership to offer Xitron's Navigator RIP, running on the Linux operating system, to Dalim Software customers worldwide.

By introducing its distribution channels to Xitron Navigator, Dalim Software believes it would make it possible for customers using the company's automated production workflows on a Linux system to integrate an industry-standard RIP under the same operating system.

The announcement comes on the heels of the introduction of Dotdrive, a RIP interface workflow tool that is claimed to allow the control of final RIP output parameters directly from within a Dalim Twist workflow.

It is based on Global Graphics' Harlequin Postscript 3 interpreter.

Navigator's features include what is claimed to be the fast, reliable and dependable processing of Postscript 3 and PDF 1.4 files with transparency and support for certified PDF; the ability to drive a proofer from the same RIP that drives the final output device creating more accurate proofs.

In addition there are also optional tools such as Trappro in-RIP trapping and the CIP3 module providing electronic ink key data to decrease press make-ready times.

The Dotdrive interface tool for Twist allows a workflow operator, either from the Mac desktop, or through the Twist weblink internet interface, to output screened one-bit TIFF files to feed devices such as proofers, platesetters or digital presses said Dalim.

It allows the Mac operator to control final RIP settings remotely, for example through the Mac 'print' dialog box.

Controllable settings include knockout and overprint, screening angle, dot shape and more.

All of those parameters can also be set remotely via a standard web browser using the Twist weblink interface to allow remote file upload, processing and output it is claimed.

Output files can be sent directly into a single RIP queue, enabling production to be much more flexible and dynamic, but also removing another source of potential human error: printing to the wrong queue.

Stephane Georges, Dalim Software product manager said: "Some of our customers have asked us about integrating a Linux-based RIP along with the Linux version of Twist.

By combining the Xitron Navigator RIP with Dotdrive our channel partners can provide a complete workflow-through-to-output solution with Twist." He continued to say that Xitron provides Dalim's resellers with an exceptional RIP and outstanding support for any RIP issue that customers might encounter.

"Access to Dalim Software resellers is a wonderful distribution channel for Xitron.

We know that Dalim Software is discriminating in its choice of resellers and they have many customers who are looking for a Linux-based RIP.

Dalim Software has an established knowledge base in the Linux operating system that helps our foray into Linux," commented Bill Owens, Xitron product manager for Navigator.
