Strengthening its industrial bindery business, Duplo International has started to market and sell a range of short run bookbinding systems manufactured by Short Run Solutions Ltd (SRS).

Duplo is now the sole UK distributor for the SRS products.

The new products are targeted at smaller binderies and digital book producers looking to enhance the production of soft and hard cover books.

The range includes the Shortrun Trim automated three-knife trimmer, the Shortrun Stack book stacker, Shortrun Case semi-automatic casemaker and Shortrun Book book casing-in line system.

SRS' products have digital set-up and with short make-ready times, the CIP4 compatible systems are said to achieve high bookbinding quality.

With minimal set-up, high running speeds and ease of use, they are believed to be ideal machines for binderies producing short runs with rapid turnaround times.

Shortrun Trim automated three knife trimmer can stand either off-line with manual feeding, or in-line, accompanied by a cooling or drying station placed after a perfect binder.

Changeover is computer-aided and does not require changing of machine parts.

The input of the necessary data is done using a touch-screen or through the connection to a central computer.

It also memorises data for repeat orders and can be integrated with a master control unit.

The Shortrun Book is a casing-in line for the fully automatic production of hardcover books.

Being fully automatic and not requiring any tools for make-ready, this machine is particularly suitable for production in very short runs.

The machine works according to conventional production processes, with conventional materials, and produces quality books, identical to those made in a traditional manner.

It has a small footprint and requires just one machine operator.

Rounding and backing stations along with gauzing and head band stations come as optional, and it also has integrated joint-forming and pressing stations.

Shortrun Stack is a very compact unit with precise operation mode that allows for careful and professional stacking of both finished soft cover books as well as hard cover books.

This machine is specifically designed for short run production and is based on industrial book binding processes.

By inputting basic data, different stacking schemes can be selected.

An integrated three-way conveying system allows for delivery in different directions, for example onto a roller conveyor or in-line to a machine for further finishing operations.

The machine also has a compact and solid structure and is easy to operate offering professional and product-safe operation.

Different pile schemes are possible and Shortrun Stack also stores production data for repeat orders.

The Shortrun Case semi-automatic case maker provides high-quality bookcases in small numbers at low costs making it ideal for sample or short runs and start-up businesses.

Easy to operate, the product achieves output of approximately 200 finished cases per hour and offers quick make-ready solutions.

Given its compact design, it can be placed near to the casing process.

Ashley Whitworth, group marketing manager at Duplo International commented: "We're delighted to announce our partnership with SRS, which will strengthen our industrial bindery offering and enable us to provide a range of innovative solutions to the short run book production market." Whitworth added: "The publishing market more than any other can achieve real benefits through short run production, saving on print costs, time, storage and distribution.

SRS' systems give book printers the opportunity to offer their customers a fast turnaround of high quality products, while keeping production costs down.".
