Ry-Gan decided to bring finishing processes in-house to maximise customer service and better manage print production.
Commenting on the company's investment, Craig Schinsing, president of Ry-Gan said: "We wanted to achieve quicker turnaround times and to reduce the costs associated with outsourcing.
We first saw Duplo's System 5000 at Graph Expo last October, and it made sense to invest in a high-tech finishing solution that would help us expand our product portfolio, reduce job turnaround times and reap the long-term cost benefits associated with growing our business." He continued: "Because we produce four-colour short-run work, it's imperative that we can finish output as quickly as we can print it - with the System 5000 this is a reality.

New Duplo Short-Run Offset Printer At Drupa.
Duplo has announced more new products to be launched at Drupa 2004 for digital print finishing and short-run single and spot colour offset printing.
Since the Duplo System 5000 has been installed, the importance of finishing has become all too clear to us - you can lose money if you're not doing it properly - we weren't, but we are now." The System 5000 incorporates DC-10/60 collating towers, the DBM-500 booklet maker, a face trimmer and a precision stacker and has been optimised for both the digital and offset markets.
A fourth generation product developed to meet UP3i standardisation, the machine provides a complete finishing for both commercial offset printers planning to migrate to digital, and for digital printers with a pre-press background looking for a productive and easy to operate solution, said Duplo.
Claimed to be capable of producing up to 5,000 booklets per hour, the System 5000 DBM-500 has a centre-referenced paper transport system that provides a fully automated sheet transport system.
It accommodates minimum to maximum sheet sizes without any manual operator intervention and caters for on-demand applications such as CD and DVD sized booklets through to A4, A3 and oversize commercial print formats.
It can alternate between formats at the push of a button or, when part of a near-line or in-line system, under the control of an UP3i compatible controller.
Schinsing added: "The System 5000 has helped us experience dramatic productivity improvements.
We can now bind a book in the same amount of time it used to take us to put it in the skid, wrap it and send it to a bindery supplier.
The efficiency is unbelievable and I didn't believe it until I witnessed it myself.".
