Colour Finisher Cuts Outsourcing On Mailing Pieces

Greenwich (UK) marketing and distribution company Romax has installed Duplo's DC-645 production colour finisher as part of an expansion programme.
That development involves the introduction of a digital colour printing department and finishing facility.
Romax, which was established in 1997 and employs 38 staff, offers customers a complete direct marketing service, from data handling to dispatch.
The new digital printing and finishing division has led to a decrease in costs through the company and has reduced the amount of work it outsources.
Romax director Robin Sumner said: "All finishing processes, except folding, caused a problem for us before we invested in Duplo's DC-645 production colour finisher.
For example, if a customer wanted us to produce a uniquely sized mailer then we would have had three choices, all of which had major drawbacks." He continued by explaining: "In those circumstances, we could either send the job out to a third party, which would incur extra costs for both Romax and the customer; order in pre-cut paper from a specialist, which would of course mean extra time and money; or guillotine the job manually in-house, which would be slow and unproductive.
Our new DC-645 cuts a job to size in a quarter of the time it took us to do it manually, and allows us to save money, which not only helps our profit margins, but also cuts the price we quote to our customers." Duplo's DC-645 has the ability to cut, slit, crease and perforate brochures, business cards, direct mail pieces, flyers and a range of marketing material in a single pass.
The system installed at Romax is connected to the design studio and newly-installed HP Indigo Press 1050 via the company's network, thus allowing for improved manageability, efficiency and automation.
Sumner commented: "The DC-645 offers us a level of automation that suits our needs perfectly.
As we are not a traditional printing house, we wanted a simple-to-use system that didn't require any specialist training.
The DC-645 together with the Indigo 1050 means we have a load and go system, which can produce the best quality, five-colour work that is cut, creased, folded and perforated at the press of a button." He said that a typical example of the sort of work the company produces on the system is to print, cut and crease a four-page, colour, A6 personalised booklet.
Such a job would previously have been a major task for Romax and would have involved many processes to complete.
Sumnar added: "We can push the lot through at a touch of a button.
The difference it has made in terms of efficiency and automation drives home just how much our new digital printing and finishing department has truly modernised our company.".
