Damian Breen, education and training liaison officer at the UK's Leicester College of Print, said: "As well as providing us with modern machines, which are relevant to the new generation of those exploring a career in print, Leicester College of Print has also benefited greatly from the professional training and support Duplo has provided.
Duplo has also been present at open days and has taken part in delivering seminars on the future of digital print finishing." He added: "The finishing suite that we received from Duplo incorporates a range of machines but specifically those targeted at short run digital work, which is currently the way the market is progressing.
Having this Duplo equipment means that we can now offer a new curriculum, which allows students to see the whole digital workflow from conception to completion and this in turn allows us to fully prepare our students with the appropriate skills." The Duplo finishing suite was installed at Leicester College of Print last year and includes Duplo's DC-545 colour finisher, a top of the range System 5000 bookletmaking system, a DB-200 perfect binder, a PFI-490 guillotine, a Foldmaster 200SA and a selection of thermal binders and laminators.

Duplo has announced more new products to be launched at Drupa 2004 for digital print finishing and short-run single and spot colour offset printing.
Breen contined: "The introduction of Duplo equipment has allowed students to develop both their digital and traditional finishing skills and, most importantly, appreciate the benefits a complete system can bring to a printing environment.
The System 5000 bookletmaker has been a particular highlight for the students, as the new generation is au fait with its computer driven front-end and the high levels of automation it provides." And he explained: "The DC-545 production colour printer has also made a huge impact, as students can finish jobs that previously took an hour using traditional methods, in just 15 minutes." Leicester College of Print fulfils all the college's own print requirements, including brochures, handbooks, leaflets and prospectuses.
Therefore, Duplo said that its finishing suite has increased productivity for the college, as well as cutting production costs.
With live jobs being printed and finished at the college, students can learn their skills in a real production environment, which provides invaluable experience.
