Duplo's finishing solutions take centre stage

A Duplo International product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Aug 22, 2006

Duplo Corporation is showcasing a range of its finishing solutions designed to meet the needs of the Print On Demand (POD) market on its booth D-01, at JGAS 2006.

On display will be its flagship Near-line Booklet making System, which provides a simple solution to finishing output from many different printing devices, the DC-645 Production Colour Finisher, which slits, cuts and creases digital mono and colour output in one single pass, and the DF-1000 Air Suction Folder, suitable for a range of collaterals such as brochures, flyers, invitations and letters.

Also on display will be a series of products from Duplo's short run, low cost mailing systems range, including the cost efficient ML-1 tabbing and labelling machine, and the EW-1 desktop manual wrapping system.

Commenting on Duplo's presence at JGAS 2006, Ryuji Nagase, Global Marketing Manager at Duplo Corporation says, "With the growing recognition within the industry of just how the finishing process can increase productivity, introduce new business opportunities and add to the printers' overall bottom line, and the understanding of its significant role within the overall production workflow, JGAS 2006 will enable Duplo to demonstrate just how productivity and output can be optimised through innovative and leading edge finishing solutions." He continues, "At Duplo Corporation, we are constantly examining the future needs of our customers and reviewing market trends to ensure our products deliver not just great reliability and quality output, but offer solutions to maximise business opportunities for both our partners and our customers." Duplo's Near-line Booklet making System takes pre-collated digital print and offset output, which are loaded into the feeder trays forming the first stage of the modular booklet making system, and stitches, folds and then face trims the document in an optional trimmer.

Mono, colour, offset and digital print are accepted and fed with ease through the system via a vacuum belt feed mechanism.

Optical mark recognition (OMR), double and misfeed detection is included as standard to detect the end of a book and bar code reading is available as an option to ensure the very highest levels of document integrity.

With the additional functionality of both the OMR and barcode reading functions, Duplo's booklet making system can automate the direct finishing of variable booklets without any need for manual intervention.

For example, the first set of booklets could contain 10 pages plus cover sheet, the next set just 5 pages without separate cover sheet and so on.

Visitors to JGAS 2006 will also see Duplo's DC-645 Production Colour Finisher, which intelligently slits, cuts and creases digital print in one single pass.

Its unique features ensure consistent and perfect document registration every time through its ability to read the printed image and automatically adjust and compensate for any image shift, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy whilst reducing waste.

The DC-645 stores up to 80 customised programmes and is capable of handling substrates up to 350 gsm and sheet sizes up to 370mm wide x 650mm high.

Completing its offering for the POD market, Duplo's high performance DF-1000 Air Suction Folder, launched early this year, offers advanced folding capabilities to produce precisely folded, scratch/mark free material from work printed on both offset and digital presses.

The latest edition to Duplo's digital product portfolio, the DF-1000 incorporates suction technology to eliminate print drag, marking or scratching, and avoids the build up of static.

Also featuring on the Duplo Corporation booth (D-01) at JGAS 2006 will be ML-1 tabbing and labelling machine, a cost-efficient, single-pass system that can tab the open end of a folded document in one or two positions, and attach a label onto the document at the same time.

Suitable for short run, low cost mailings, it runs at speeds of up to 240 sheets per minute (two tabs on A4 letter folded document), and can handle document sizes up to 297 x 332 mm in a range of media types including single fold, letter fold, gate fold and brochures.

Also as part of its low cost mailing offering on show at JGAS, Duplo will show its easy to use EW-1 desktop manual wrapping machine, capable of wrapping brochures, magazines, application forms and other documents, up to a thickness of 12mm and a width of between 148-240mm.

The media is simply inserted into the machine manually, without the need for complex job setup and can wrap up to 100 sets in just four minutes.
