At Graph Expo 2006, Duplo USA will feature a cross section of print finishing systems, which cater for all aspects of the traditional offset and digital markets Visitors to Duplo's stand - 3846 - will see the Duplo portfolio running jobs, as well as on its partner stands - Canon, HP, Objective Advantage Inc (OAI) and Xerox

The show will be the platform for Duplo's newly launched Dubinder - a fully automatic, single-clamp system that produces a strong bind and quality finish, said the company.

In addition, visitors will see Duplo's DC-645 production colour finisher incorporating JDF capabilities operating on Duplo's stand linked to a Xerox printer via OAI's Symbio production workflow software.

In the bookletmaking and collating arena, Duplo's flagship System 5000 will be shown for the first time in-line with the Xerox IGEN3 digital colour press (Xerox stand 1217).

In addition to the DC-545 HCEX multi-function slitter, cutter and creaser, Duplo will be exhibiting its second generation machine, the heavy duty DC-645 production colour finisher.

The machine is said to slit, cut and crease in one pass and has the ability to read printed images and automatically adjust and compensate for the common issue of image shift.

A JDF compatible machine, the DC-645 will be driven by OASymbio software, a suite of production management tools that is said to enable even small-to-medium sized printers to embrace a fully automated JDF workflow.

The DC-645 will be used in conjunction with a Xerox DC-8000 Docucolor press on the stand, to show the full JDF workflow, from conception to completion.

Si Nguyen, product marketing manager at Duplo USA, said: "The on-stand demonstrations are designed to introduce printers to the profit saving features and opportunities brought to the industry by JDF (Job Definition Format) and UP3i (Universal Printer Pre-Processing and Post-Processing Interface), which lie at the heart of automated printing." He added: "Ultimately a print line incorporating JDF from start to finish will dramatically cut both production costs and set up times for the printer.

Only limited manual intervention is required to run the entire print line, making it easy for even the most inexperienced employee to successfully manage the print run." Also in the cutting section, will be the DP-660 hydraulic cutter, which is claimed to provide accuracy, ease of use and features such as an eye level read out that shows the paper position on a digital display.

According to Duplo, the machine offers dependable precision paper trimming and accommodates cuts of 26.5" wide and paper heights of up to 3.93".

A computerised cutter automation system stores up to 72 cut locations with nine job selections.

Duplo will be presenting its System 5000 at the show.

Said to be designed to maximise productivity, the fully automatic system operates at claimed speeds of up to 5,000 booklets and 10,000 collated sets an hour and is versatile, able to feed up to 250gsm covers and a variety of sheet sizes.

At Graph Expo, the System 5000 will be shown in conjunction with the 2KT two-knife trimmer, which provides an independent modular approach to trimming all open sides of a booklet, removing the need to pre-guillotine printed pages before collating, saving time and money.

For automation with lower volumes, the System 2000 is Duplo's entry level system for those wanting high quality but at lower production volumes, said the company.

Its DBM-120 bookletmaker offers a self-setting size mechanism and staples booklets at up to 2,400 books an hour.

Also on show will be Duplo's near-line finishing system, designed specifically for the needs of digital print.

It comprises the DSF-2000 intelligent sheet feeder, a slit, cut, crease (SCC) module, DBM-500 bookletmaker and DBM-500T trimmer.

The SCC module accepts sheets directly from the digital press, trims the non-printed border and creases along the fold line for a full bleed and crack-free finished product.

Duplo's Nguyen commented: "This bookletmaking system has been designed to eliminate several manual offline processes, such as creasing and guillotining digitally printed sheets, a revolutionary feature that's unique to Duplo.

Traditionally, digitally printed sheets need to be pre-guillotined before the bookletmaking process, piles often need to be split, which means pages can end up out of sequence.

With the SCC, sheets can be placed straight on to the bookletmaker from the press, intelligently merged and finished in a single pass." The Duplo Muller system will also feature on the stand.

The machine is said to epitomise on-demand finishing with its claimed high speeds and versatility.

Designed to be connected in-line or off-line to continuous roll form printers, a Duplo System 5000 bookletmaker, or a folding and inserting system, the Duplo Muller systems are tailored to fit each customer's specific needs, added the company.

Duplo will be showing its friction-feed DFC-12/24 tabletop collator, which is claimed to provide non-stop productivity at up to 3,900 sets per hour and is available in 12 or 24 bin configurations.

The DFC-12/24 collator allows for bi-directional feeding for collating and creating booklets simultaneously.

Automatic self setting misfeed, out-of-paper, double feed and jam detectors help provide consistent accuracy, added the company.

Duplo's custom designed software will also be on show to display how feeding options can be selected from an interface and touch-screen monitor.

The IMBF (Intelligent Multi-bin Feeder) allows the operator to select which bin to feed from, as well as the feeding sequence and fulfills a variety of applications in digital print, such as one-to-one marketing material based on a pre-determined database, mailing applications with an optional folder and inserter unit, and inserting selected pre-printed material in to mono and colour merging jobs.

Duplo will be exhibiting its first high production perfect binder - the Dubinder, which is aimed to create a sleek and professional look on a range of applications including books, directories, manuals and magazines, said the company.

Visitors to the show will see how the Dubinder can handle output from offset and digital devices at speeds of up to 500 books an hour, added Duplo.

Nguyen explained: "We predict that the Dubinder will be an extremely popular choice for a variety of different print environments, in particular medium volume offset printers, the print-on-demand sector, high-volume in plant printers, government departments and trade finishing houses." The Dubinder's automation is said to lead to a reduction in set-up times and costs, making it suitable for short run and variable print.

According to Duplo, one of the machine's key attributes is its easy-to-use integrated controls, which facilitate a book-bound quality with minimal operator skills.

Duplo will also be exhibiting its suction folder for digital color print, the DF-1000.

The company believes that commercial and on-demand printers are set to benefit from the advanced capabilities of the DF-1000.

The system produces precisely folded, scratch-free and mark-free material from work printed on offset and digital presses.

As the newest addition to Duplo's digital product portfolio, the DF-1000 is said to be suitable for folding direct mail pieces, such as brochures, flyers and invitations, as well as official documentation, for example invoices and letters.

Other products on show in the folding and binding arena if the Duplo stand include Duplo's DT-900 tabber, which offers a folding and tabbing system for mailing and the MR-720 perfect binder, which is claimed to provide an output of up to 600 cycles an hour.

Also on show for the office environment, will be the DF-920 tabletop folder, which performs high-speed folding of up to 200 sheets per minute, claimed the company.

Duplo will be featuring its 600 dots per inch (dpi) x 600dpi A3 digital suction fed DP-460H digital printer with its claimed 3,000 sheet capacity and offset stacking unit, which the company believes makes the printer suitable for the print-for-profit high volume user.

On the Xerox stand - 1217 - Duplo's System 5000 collating and bookletmaking system will be shown for the first time in-line to Xerox's IGen3 digital colour press and the DC-645 production colour finisher will also be appearing as an off-line stand-alone system.

As well as being present on OAI's stand - 5256 - three of Duplo's JDF enabled DC-645 machines will be shown on HP's stands - 248 and 646 - finishing jobs printed by Indigo presses, such as business cards, information leaflets and self-mailer pieces.

On the Canon stand - 1253 - the DC-645 will be finishing self-mailer pieces being printed on its new Imagepress C7000VP colour press and will be used in conjunction with Duplo's in-line fold and tab system, the DT-900.

Throughout Graph Expo, HP, Kodak and Xerox will also be hand delivering personalised digital work to the Duplo stand, to be finished on its DC-645 and nearline bookletmaking system.
