At Digital Print World exhibition, Duplo International will unveil a new initiative to encourage printers to think again about the business benefits gained from the way printed sheets are finished Duplo will also be debuting two new systems designed to complement the campaign

For the first time in the UK, the new GMP-Protopic 520 digital laminator, designed to combat the problems of laminating digital print, will be on show.

Exerting one tonne of pressure on to the roller, the on-demand laminator addresses common problems associated with laminating digitally produced printed work, such as curling.

The GMP-Protopic 520 - which is said to be the first of its kind - runs at a claimed maximum speed of 15 metres per minute and uses GMP's polynex digital supermelt films, for all leading digital media.

Duplo will also for the first time demonstrate an automised digital finishing system consisting of its new multi-functional MKF-35 knife folder coupled in-line to its DC-645 production colour finisher.

The DC-645 slits, cuts and creases the sheet, as well as compensates for image shift, whilst the MKF-35 completes the job by folding the document - from press to finished product in one single pass.

Claimed to be capable of running at up to 17,000 folds per hour, the MKF-35 can be used with materials up to 3mm thick, including paper, cardboard, brochures, and pre-folded sheets.

It can also be operated as a stand-alone machine, or moved around the finishing department and placed in-line to a folder, press, bookletmaker or docucutter.

Coupled to any bookletmaker, the MKF-35 can be used to fold booklets in half, thus reducing the size of the finished product and achieving cost savings in response to the new Royal Mail Pricing In Proportion charges, added Duplo.

DPW will also be the public arena for the launch of Duplo's latest industry commitment to bring finishing to the top of the print production agenda, and encourage printers to think again.

The first initiative of Duplo's multi-faceted campaign entitled 'think again' will be the launch of a series of educational guides, aimed to stimulate interest and understanding about how to find finishing systems to increase profits.

Visitors can pick up Duplo's new finishing guides on the company's DPW stand - number 245, where the guides will be finished live on a System 2000 bookletmaker.

Duplo's guides have also been awarded full accreditation by the BAPC and are available on-line.

Peter Jolly, Duplo International's UK marketing manager, commented: "We are constantly striving to introduce new print finishing systems that meet the challenging demands of the marketplace, that make the transition to digital production easier for printers and are adoptable for hybrid offset and digital production.

DPW is the ideal platform to provide advice on how to make the most of digital printing equipment and discuss new innovations and ideas." In addition, Duplo International will be showcasing other systems for the digital arena covering a range of finishing capabilities, including bookletmaking, binding, folding and cutting.

Duplo believes it will be illustrating to DPW visitors how finishing remains an integral print production process and how modern finishing equipment can significantly add value and assist printers in maximising returns.

It will also be demonstrating how printers can increase productivity and efficiency.

In bookletmaking, Duplo will be presenting its near-line bookletmaking system, which is designed for the needs of digital printers.

It comprises the DSF-2000 sheet feeder, a slit, cut, crease (SCC) module, DBM-500 bookletmaker and DBM-500T trimmer.

The SCC module accepts sheets directly from the digital press, trims the non-printed border and creases along the fold line for a full bleed and crack-free finished product, said Duplo.

The company will also have the System 2000 bookletmaker entry-level product for all types of printers.

The newly launched DF-1000 suction folder from Duplo is designed for commercial and on-demand printers.

The folder's capabilities are said to allow it to produce precisely folded, scratch and mark-free material from work printed on offset and digital presses.

The DF-1000 is the newest addition to Duplo's digital portfolio.

Featuring on the stand will be the Duplo DB-200 Compact Perfect Binder, which has the claimed ability to produce up to 200 books per hour and is aimed at servicing short-run and on-demand printing applications.

Duplo will also be exhibiting a selection of desktop binding systems, including Wire-O, coil and comb binding devices.

As well as showcasing the DC-645 production colour finisher with MKF-35, Duplo will also be displaying guillotines from Ideal following the acquisition of the sole UK distributorship earlier this year.

Duplo's range of finishing systems can also be seen on various companies' stands throughout the show.
